I can not figure out why the steering column keeps slipping out of the female end at the firewall. I had my brother tighten the screw through the column as I pushed the column toward the firewall and still the thread column backed out pretty far
Should I tighten down the 2 nuts that hold the column at the bracket? Angle the neck of the column at the firewall?
Thanks for any advice on this.

I am tightening Bolt #9. As I tighten #9, #1 begins to back out of #4. I have pics of before removing the column and the threads are sticking out maybe 1/16". By the time I tighten the bolt the threads have backed out 3/4".

Should I tighten bracket #2 down completely? There are alos 2 nuts holding the column up to the chasis which appear to be #10 in the diagram. They go directly above where the nut is pictured.
Thanks again for any help with this.

I think your not getting the splines deep enough into the colume before you [put the bolt in. Also tighten the upper end a bit, up by the wheel.
I've changed a couple of steering racks and never had the problem you discribe.

if you've stripped the threads, I have a spare u-joint.....where did I put that damn thing?
You know there is two bolts on the u joint right? Second clamp bolt attaches the the steering rack.
