Hey, I jus ordered the fifth gear sleeve kit from gearspeed...

Ive never torn into a trans before and I only plan on replacing the fifth synchro there are some good writeups on here for tranny rebuilds but I wanna know do I have to remove the mainshaft to get to the synchro or can i get it out and replace it without removing everything...

This is gonna be a new experience for me and im doin research and hittin my textbooks but im not feelin very confident at this point and I cant afford to mess this up...

can someone please help me get an idea of whats involved here and ive also been reading about shims and tolerances but being that im not rebuilding the entire trans do I have to worry about this? Fifth is on the top when i get the case off right?
