help with motor problems

Ok so my car was idling real bad. Pulled the code and got a cel 45. The needle would drop down when in neutral and if i revved it up in the neutral the rpms would go up and drop all the way down with the motor turning off sometimes. Checked the compression and it was fine. Checked the plugs and they were black (car is tuned to run a little rich). I went ahead and put new plugs in along with wires. Changed the cap and rotor also. The car started up fine and idled fine and pulled strong. Drove for a few weeks with no probs. Last week i noticed that it idled a little lower. It would kinda hunt, drop low but eventually come back to 800rpms. It wouldnt also do this. Sometimes it idled fine and sometimes it didnt. Went out the other day and the car wouldnt start up. It would start but the car idled like **** and the car would shake. Sometimes it stays on like this and sometimes it just dies out. I didnt think a valve adj would do anything but i went ahead and did one today and still no luck....anyone have any ideas???
How do you check to see if you have spark? If there was no spark wouldnt the car not start up?
Planning on buying a fuel pressure checker from autozone tomorrow to check the fuel pressure. If the fuel pressure is off i can assume its either the FPR, injectors or the fuel pump but how will i know which one to check?
