Default Begginers Motorcycle License. Help please.

okay. i've been driving for about 3 years already. now i am thinking about getting a bike. one huge question im asking and wondering for all you experienced bikers out there.

After the written test and MSF class or what so ever. how does the riding test work at the DMV? do you have to bring your own bike? what if you do not know anyone that owns a bike and/or wont let you use one? how does that work?

i do not know anyone that has a bike for sure. so i cannot get no practice or whatsoever. is the best idea to save up my cash and buy a bike before i get my license, but having that temporary permitted riding license at the same time? or is there another solution to this.

How did you guys get your Motorcycle License

any help gladly appreciated.
Thanks.

depending on what state you're in, successful completion of the MSF course act as a waiver for the DMV motorcycle road course

all i took was the MSF course in md, and i got my full M Class endorsement.

welcome, and good luck

In Idaho you can get a permit and ride for 6 months w/o your endorsement. But if you take Idaho Star (same thing as MSF), you don't have to take the riding skills test.

take the MSF, and if you pass you get your DMV rider's test waived.

MSF waive the DMV riding test. All you have yo do is take the written and you're license.

Yep, same here in Cali, pass your MSF, get a waiver and youre set to get your M1.

I suggest making friends with someone who has a bike so you can play around a lil bit and make sure riding is something youre totally cut out for.

Best of luck to ya and welcome to, hopefully, your new addiction !! :D

If you pass the MSF class, all you have to do is take a kick to the ***** without flinching and they give you your M endorsement

In NY when you pass the MSF course you have to wait for the slip to come in the mail which can take anywhere from three weeks to two months . You then take it to the DMV and then they'll print a temporary license on the spot.

it'd help if we knew your state.

i just found a good deal on a bike, i wasnt looking for it persay but i just came across it, never ridden before, but i baught the bike, and just got my 2 month permit (CT) today.

most states i belive MSF will give you a waiver for the on-bike portion of the lisence test. and MSF will provide the bike for the class. if however you dont do the MSF course, then you have to take your own bike to the DMV for an on bike test.

the requirements for the class are stated on that page. did you see permit anywhere? then that means no permit required.

In NY....

If you don't take MSF and just take the written....There is no waiting period before scheduling your road course. You just sign up...I signed up and couldn't get in for another month.

You have to have a licensed driver ride the bike and the person taking the road test bring a car.

When you get to the location you and the person on the bike swap spots...the person from the DMV will hop in with the person in the car and follow you around town.

I had to do 3 left hand circle...3 right hand circles..and 2 figure 8's.

Went around the block a few times...

And you're done.

It's really simple. I was nervous as hell...but it's really simple.
