Transmission rebuild update
Last September I asked some questions about a transmission problem. See https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?&i...=557204#557204 for the thread. I parked the car for the winter and this spring I bought a used transmission from TJ at http://tjshondas.20m.com/ . TJ is a great guy, I can recommend him if you find anything you need in his parts for $ale section. My original diagnosis was correct, the front bearing was shot (I could wiggle the input shaft of the old transmission up and down about 3mm, and the transmission I got from TJ was rock solid. What I also discovered is that the first gen CRX's and Civics of the same period did not use a pilot bearing. TJ was kind enough to confirm this and sent me pics of a later model flywheel (91) that had a pilot bearing. Since one came in the clutch kit I got at NAPA and the transmission shaft had a spot for one, I bored the center of my flywheel and used the bearing for the later models from the kit. Kind of a belt and suspenders approach, stronger than original. I have a x-section drawing of the modification details if anybody is interested. Sure is great to have the old CRX running again, I got real tired of driving my jeep, especially when the weather got nice. Thanks for all the responses to my original post.
TJ rocks!!!!!! One of the old diehards from a while back.
I even still have his dyno plots saved from the shop we had our cars dynoed.......
