I've searched on this, but not too many confirmed answer so i thought i would make one again. Will a d series VSS/speedometer gear setup work correct without any problems in a 92 YS1 GSR tranny. If so, how did you mount it, with the d series plate/bracket or without it.
I have compared GSR VSS and the D series VSS i have at home and the gear that goes in towards the differential in the tranny are not identical although appear like it should work, the teeth and curves of the teeth are similar but individual thickness of each teeth appear to larger in the GSR VSS.
Also the length/placement of the VSS's when inserting both into the transmission appear to different in regards to placement. the D series VSS seems shorter length.
My goal is to install a D series to omit the power steering lines/tubes, but dont want to risk messing up my GSR cable tranny. The d series vss fits in but seems to be able to sink down further than it should, remember their is a slot etched in the side of the VSS assembly where the d series VSS bracket slides on to mount it to the transmission. If i push the D series VSS all the way down to the furthest position it will go, i have no room to place the bracket to mount it. Therefore, i must keep it elevated a bit to where the bracket can slide in to mount it. I'm worried the gears aren't seated correctly or in the wrong position and dont want to break anything.
Can someone who has had success running this setup give their input on this?
Thank you.

How you been bro.
Is that the only reason why you want to swap them, to get rid of those PS line tubes?

Hi Turk
I'm ok, just tired of procrastinating on this fixing the car and want it up and running.
yea getting rid of power steering lines/tubes is the part of the reason, but the main reason is my B series VSS that came with my tranny, the mounting arm is busted and i decided to use this D VSS instead since i had one laying around. I'd read around that it work but with closer observation, it may not be the right thing to do.
In the end i may have to grab yours.

Yeah, i just tried searching as well, here and on google, etc. Everything points to yes, you can use the D-series VSS but no details as far as if mounting is different.
Hopefully someone can clarify for you. If not, i still have it.
I was thinking of having those tubes machined off of mine and closing those holes up permanently.
