Default $350 Civic project

well my last venture back into EF's was pretty rusty so i looked around craigslist for something decent in the area. I found this 2 owner DX about an hour away in the middle of no where, for 350 with engine and tranny problems(stills starts and drives, but wont go very fast). Well i got to his house and hes got a DA sitting in his yard with a ebay exhaust...so first thing i thought was "oh great, its probably riced to ****" but come to find out the guy was like late 40's and a honda-phile. he owned the car since 94 and 30k miles. I was pretty impressed by how clean the car was, as it is in wisconsin. Anyway i hope to turn this into a nice little street car. Its auto, but i have a crx donor waiting for pedal extraction.

the automatic transmission doesnt like to shift into gear very well, like i put it in park, yet it will roll backwards, or i put it in "d4" and it will just rev, it will drive in "d3" and 2 but i cant go very fast. He said the tranny cable or something(i have no idea with these autos) needed to be replaced. Anyone have any ideas?

awesome find! Looks like a great start. Now start sourcing parts for the auto to manual swap. Let me know if u have any questions on the swap.

Does it seem to be one off of where it should be? The shifter could be off, try taking it apart and make sure its aligned correctly. In any case a manual swap should be in order.

For $350 it looks like a killer deal
What plans do you have?

i had another project thread for a rusty *** EF, but i decided it wasnt worth it. you can see in the background my current daily, a high compression ls/vtec DC, but the motor needs freshening and the car is to heavy so i want to swap everything into this Ef and make a pseudo-sleeper.

As for the tranny, It does seem likes its one off, The rear motor mount is believed to be shot, since the motor rocks considerably. Could this potentially have led to the failure in the shifting?

its possible but as stated above, an auto to manual swap is in order either way

oh and i dont think its so easy as just a tranny swap The compression was checked today, one cylinder had a oily spark plug and the rest looked damn perfect. well the one with the oil tested to no compression at all... i have a whole nother d15, although its condition is also questionable. Im not quite sure on what im going to do next, although a manual conversion could make it a helluva lot easier....

Check the the cable that allows it to shift........see if it has any visible damage, if so, replace it and see if that solves the problem. Have someone change the "gears" while you underneath the car and see what is actually happening and then maybe diagnose from there. Hope this helps

The head is coming off soon, my dad believes that one of the valves could be stuck.

Absolute steel, you bastard. I have one of the cleanest crx in the USA and would trade it for a hatch of equal shape.

I want a hatch.
