i took off in third instead of first now i have a bad vibration, once the car started jerking i pressed the clutch and the car stalled. i am not sure what may have messed up, it vibrates pretty bad when idling and it slows a litte at high speeds? it is a 98 accord with a h224a out of a 01 prelude not sure which tranny.
the gears in the trans are in constant mesh, and by changing gears, the synchros are what locks in the gear ratio. you may have damaged your clutch assembly. your vibration may be clutch chatter.
i was half way asleep and didnt realize it was in third, i was driving the car from california bringing it to texas
So you stalled the car out by trying to take off in third gear? Of course this is undesireable, but I don't see what the big deal is. Most people have attempted taking off in second or third on occasion, or done it on accident... The biggest problem doing this is burning the clutch out, and that's only if you tried to slip it enough not to stall, in which case you would have KNOWN you were in third.
The tranny is in constant mesh, so would only be a synchro that could be blown out, but the OP didn't say anything about grinding or missing a gear, so that's out.
Clutch chatter?? at idle?? Seriously??. What are you guys talking about???
To the OP, you say it's just vibrations at idle, that become less noticeable at cruising speed? IMO, it sounds like you stalled, and the force of the car still moving, against a motor that wasn't running but was in gear probably torqued it enough to break a mount. I'd check the front and rear mounts, and let us know what you find from there.

The most difficult part of the job is getting all the bolts out of the mount, working the new mount into place, and getting the center bolt back through the mount. It's very limited working room. The mount was probably on its way south already, but i'd recommend getting a new mount and poly inserts from T.A.S. auto. Probably run you 50 dollars for both.
