Default factory ef9 manual/wiring issues???

i have a 1989 civic sir. when i got it someone had made a horrible attempt at "converting to obd1" and hacked up all the under dash wiring and wires are just loose with no sensors connected to them. now my solutions i thought of are:
-new dash harness and new gauge cluster harness (cant find unmolested)
-modify usdm si harness and add lengthen wires where needed
-repair the existing harness (cant find a repair manual or any wiring information for that matter)
wiring isnt a problem i have a factory 1988 manual already but my understanding is that the 88 is different than 89+ also i just dont know to what degree
any other suggestions would be helpful
Thanks,
Jason

I know in the sedans that 88 - 89 wiring(as far as the clusters so i would assume the whole dash harness) is the same and 90 - 91 wiring is different,

i had an 88 crx and there was a few wires that were different from the 89+ where it plugs into the ecu little known fact that pissed me off for a year or so trying to get rid of hesitations and check engine lights

I was just wondering because you are talking about using a USDM harness and it would be a pain in the *** to get it to work. you might as well just use brand new wire and wire it up yourself. it will be so much easier that way
