Default How did you convince your parents?

How did you convince your parents that getting a bike is an okay thing to do? I want to buy a bike before next riding season but my mom is trippin about how bad they are and that I will die if I get on one. So please help me out.

..........i haven't............... i've had my bike for a 2 years and my mom doesn't know a thing about it. i don't live with my parents so that's how i get away with it, but my father knows (unless i finally get caught by my mom, then he'll be playing the i just found out role).

hahaha, how is it you always seem to have these random pics? do you just have them all saved for just such occasions?

to the op, you WILL crash/fall/get hurt in some way, it just comes with riding. the best thing you can do is research. take an msf course, and maybe find some extra safetly riding classes you can take. as your parents see you in these classes learning safe riding techniques and see you on the class's bikes, im sure it will slowly grow on them until its acceptable. if not then their house, their rules.

I was in your same shoes up until about 6 months ago. I had been bugging my parents about getting one since I was 16. I'm 21 now and finally I just told my mom I was going to take the MSF course and wanted to look into buying a bike. Granted I live on my own I still feel it is necessary to have your parents blessing b/c after all family is family. I talked to her, showed her statistics, proved my responsibility (been paying my own insurance, gas, car payments, cell phone, credit card for 3-4 years now) and she finally came around. Hell, she even cosigned the loan. Her words were, "if you die on that thing I'm going to kill you." Makes no sense but that's how I know she is ok with it and trusts me.

Key to convincing your parents........TIME.

Oh and don't get a 600 like you asked about in your other thread. Just my .02, you can see my justification in that thread.

exactly my good man. this way, you can put yourself into debt buying a shiny new piece of death on two wheels, your parents pitted deathly against you, get yourself kicked out of the house with no place to live and a job that is only able to pay for your bike, beer, and take out food, and then probably end up as a road crayon.

My mom was scared shitless for me when I first started. But she sees me in my gear whenever I ride so she eventually was cool with it. I finally convinced her to go for a ride on the back just the other day. Now she wants to buy one of her own.

I told my parents that I was buying a bike and that it was better to take the risk than to miss out on something so fun and exhilarating. I then got some gear, took the MSF course and got a bike and my parents were excited for me more than anything else.

I was 22 when I got my first SS bike and my parents still freaked. They felt better though when they saw that I had also bought all the gear.

Id take the MSF course, buy all the gear and then show that to your parents. Itll help your case when you do buy the bike.
