Default can't decide on throttle body for the gsr

jdm gsr with ctr cams going in along with an aebs manifold, and i can't come up with what size of tb to go with, or just leave it stock even.

I've been doing a fair amount of research and there's not too much evidence showing a need for a tb upgrade on a mildly modded n/a motor.

my inclination was to just get a 62mm itr tb, so i can have the side pull pulley, and have the option later to overbore it to 65mm to match the aebs manifold. but the itr tb's are missing that valve below the unit (FIV or somthing), and i know not of the workaround for that issue (and i don't want a farm job here).

i'm staying away from aftermarket tb's right now. the price/quality/necessity, doesn't compete with the oem units at my level.

so now i'm left contemplating inside my head about keeping the gsr tb...but what bore? 62mm...64mm? Is it worth 100$? the 200hp h22a has a 60mm tb. the 240hp s2000 has only 62mm (they say). I'm aiming for 165 - 170whp.

leave it stock or go with the itr if you just have to have one. there not enough done to the motor to justify buying one.

thanks guys, i appreciate all the opinions.

HondaCivicSiR1 - were you able to compare anything before and after your tb upgrade, how about the intake mani?

ToeJam-any experience or info on the aebs manifold? my research indicated that for a cheap manifold it works quite well. also, the gsr aligned ports are a plus.

1.8L_allmotormilitia - i assume you have the itr tb/sk2 mani on a gsr engine? what's the deal with the missing valve on the itr tb, that the gsr tb has (FIV i think)?

AEBS IM is quite good for the money, imo. It’s basically an itr knock off with improvements. If you already have it on, there is no need to take it off. I just wanted to throw in my 2ct that with your set up you will be better off with the stock gsr IM. I can almost promise you that you will lose mid range tq with the aebs and that set up.

On the brighter side, you can build around it. When you’re ready for more air you can take satitus suggestion and get that TB. It’s quite good. I believe they are made from the same company that made aebs "typhoon" IM. I bought one from professional products and it’s identical to that one.

yep the aebs for the gsr is based on the itr, i'm sure, but its more than just an itr copy with a gsr flange welded on like the skunk2 haha. Has the proper port angle alignment, and port shape. I don't have it yet, its in transit.

I'm sure i will lose some low end, but hopefully much of it can be tuned back in. Now with my itr tranny on there, tho, i'm finding low end torque to be more drop in the bucket. Its the top end 6-8krpms, that the gsr mani restricts, that i'm after now.
