I <3 the f4i, but i feel like at some point next year, i'll want something new. maybe i'll get something over the winter.
obvious choice is an SV. other obvious choice is to track the daytona. the SV doesn't have enough top end, and i'm not tracking the daytona until it's paid off.
ironically, i don't like the way twins fall off up top, but i'm sick of downshifting constantly w/ i4's. i guess i could live with it if it were a really light, easy to ride, fun bike.
NC29/30? k4 gsxr750? RS250/RSV1000? 749/748?

yeah, finding parts for the old hondas will probably make me go insane, and i can already tell the rs250 will be a complete pain in the ***.
but xx8/xx9's somewhat intrigue me. Valve jobs won't be an issue, i don't think since it would take a long time for me to chew up mileage on a track only bike, with me averaging 80-150 miles per weekend, 12 weekends per year. at worst, that's 1800 miles a year, which i think is too much anyway. i liked the 996 i rode a while back because it felt lighter than any of the 1000cc bikes i'd ridden, had torque, but didn't fall off up top. i'm assuming it gets better with the 8's and 9's, albeit more expensive.
i know spare parts will be way more expensive than they are for the f4i, but i can deal with that. i just have to not crash
i hope track plastics, sliders, case covers, won't cost me a fortune and cover my *** when i eventually lowside the bitch.

LuLz! i rode one during my last session on sunday. it was fun beating the **** out of that thing, and it had plenty of oomph midcorner etc, but once i got onto the back straight it was bye bye SV. i donno. i'm still open to the idea. the guy whose SV i was raping was riding my F4i and he really liked it so i think we could prob work out a trade. but, i'd like to explore my options, like a 2 wheeled shultzplan.

where the fork have you been? I was hoping at least 1 of you nova squids would've been there this past weekend. I'm looking to try and do the final main day Oct 26. I'm a lil concerned about what the weather could hold for a day that late... I may wait to see how the weather is holding up. I have no desire to ride main on a day below 70 degrees.

yeah, thought about it. no great deals on SM's out there. they're all ungodly expensive.

Well, we run at kart tracks for the most part. Those tracks aren't too expensive to rent ($500 for a weekday). And if no karts show up, it's run as long as you want. Otherwise, you share sessions between the karts and 'tards.

Depends on what you're looking to get. KTMs are fairly inexpensive. The Honda CRF and Husqy supermotos cost more, and the Aprilia's are an arm and a leg.

I'm heavily considering this option myself now, the fiance wants to get into riding and she would most likely learn on what I have, and I think the 636 is a bit more than what I want her on. I think a supermoto type bike would be great for her and fun for me on track, plus, we could split track days with one
.
If you're going to be on longer faster tracks though, something more sportbikey would be best. You can find Aprilia RS250's with spares for ~$3500 all day long, that could be a super fun bike to ride

RS250's are great bikes, but a better choice might be the RS125 or TZ125. Parts would be a bit easier to come by. Those little things are real potent - at one trackday I attended, an "A" level rider was passing us "B" guys (they combined the groups) with an RS125 chassis and an 80cc engine...!
Supermoto is great fun. But what about having her learn on the new 250?

there's a suzyQ dealer about 50 ft from my work and they have a yellow and a black dr-z400sm's outside calling my name.
Anybody have any idea how quick this bike is say compared to an sv-650 or something?

Slower. You'd need to mod the hell out of it. Something about a pipe and jetkit + something called a 3x3 mod. But that's just in a straight line.

The DRZSM is a great bike, I've got one... but it is down on powah in a straight line. Advantage: it's more maintenance friendly than the more powerful motos. Don't be fooled into thinking you can use it on a big track, though, in any relatively fast turn your going to be sliding all around.... with the front wheel.

Tall, soft suspension and no weight on the front end.

Yep.
Reduced load on the front tire = reduced grip. Especially over surface irregularities.

this looks to be the winner, though i'll turn it into a mostly track bike and get an SV for riding around town.
