98dx exhaust on 00' ex chassis with b series
well a guy i know used to have a 98' dx that had tons of boltons, suspension, exhaust etc all done. then he crashed it and he hasnt touched it since and basically doenst care about it anymore. right now he lives in ohio, while the car is at his old house in texas. he said i could just take the whole exhaust because he doenst care, i'd just have to pay for shipping.
so basically if i paid for shipping to get the whole catback with the test pipe shipped to the toledo area in ohio from the san antonio area in texas, approx how much would it be (how much does the average catback and testpipe weigh?). Also wondering how fitment would be under the car, would it all fit correctly?
i know i will need a b series header but i just want to make sure before i try to go through with this that it will even be worth it. let me know thanks.
he cant remember what brand exhaust it was but said it was loud (im guessing jsut the fact there was no cat). really i dont mind a loud exhaust, i just need something better than the stock piping to let my ls/vtec breathe easier lol.
both cars are coupes btw.

it would be a testpipe. right now my setup is some kinked in b series dc 4-1 header, stock d series cat bolted to that, then about 1 foot of pipe welded to a flange on the cat and just welded to the rest of the stock piping. i figure ill just drop the cat out and it should just bolt up to a header with the testpipe it has?

it depends on what kind test pipe..the d series or b series. and also the size of the collector of your header and the inlet diameter of the test pipe.. 2.25" or 2.5" or 3" ??

it will probably be bolted to a stock ls exhaust mani, as my dc header i got for free and is kinked in, so i gonna put a stock ls exhaust mani on here soon. hope it all fits, but really anything can fit with a little fabrication.

Well with a DX exhaust on anything else but a D16Y7 with stock manifold (or other D series with D16Y7 manifold), you will have no room for a cat or test pipe. The DX has the cat on the header. Hence the exhaust is long enough to just bolt directly to the downpipe.
If you got a b-series header (NON JDM ITR), it will all bolt up. You will have no room for cat or test pipe. It will go header to exhaust since the donor car was a DX.

stock NON JDM ITR integra? Mostly yes. There are certain GSR years that have a short exhaust manifold. You will need a Cat or Test pipe if you have the short manifold. I recommend a cat. You might make 1hp more with a test pipe, but it will sound and smell like ****, and you're polluting.

yeah true. the guy said the exhaust doesn't have a cat, it has a test pipe so im guessing, with a dx, you replace the stock header-cat with a header, so then an aftermaket exhaust would put the cat below the car like on a d16y8 in an ex. so then it should be similar to whats on there right now.
the header on my exhaust right now didnt meet the cat on the rest of the exhaust, it was a couple inches short so i just cut the cat off the rest of the exhaust (left flange on cat, just cut it off the rest of the exhaust), bolted it onto the header, took it to an exhaust shop and had them fill in the gap between the cat and the rest of the exhaust. So im guessing ill have to have something similar done with this then?

I didn't read everyone's response, but a B (b16a2 to be exact) series header WILL fit on a D series cat. I have been using this cat for over 7 years! In fact, when I purchased the swap, I asked for the B series cat, but I never switched it; it's a spare.

To confirm, it's on a 2000 civic ex with a 2000 b16a2 motor. I had to change out the EX midpipe and muffler, since it was a tad bigger for oem specs. Maybe .25 inch bigger in diameter. The cat is still holding up!!

yeah mines a 2000 honda civic ex with an ls/vtec swap. hope i can get this exhaust! i really could care less how loud it is, i kind of want a loud car. i really think function > sound. might sound like *** but if it works well who cares.

lol usually the loud *** exhausts only make like 2hp more than the quiet ones. I refuse to have a loud exhaust again. My S13 was SUPER freaking loud. But it was a turbo car, so it sounded kinda cool (3'' Greddy downpipe, APEXi GT SPEC 3.75'' piping). My EK hatchbox (B16A, DC header, D series cat, 2.25'' piping, resonator, and vibrant black muffler) was a little on the loud side. My friend's H22 prelude is FREAKING FAST lol and it uses a world sport. I love it. It's like 8-9 cars faster than my modded GSR and only about 2 cars slower than my S2000 from a stop, and 1/2 car slower from a 15mph roll.
World sport FTW.
