Hi guys

I brought my car for the NY emission test and fail with the code P0401 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Insufficient Detected. The mechanic told me I need a new EGR and that would cost about $350 parts and labor. Is this reasonable?

I'm considering selling this car in about a month and don't want to spend too much. Is there any other way to get pass the test?

honda has an extended emissions warranty for code p0401. the problem is carbon build up inside the air plenum. honda has a kit for this problem and it includes an egr valve. cost is less than 100.00 and is redely available. the extended warranty is 8 years or 80,000 miles but can be extended even longer if you bribe a honda service writer at them dealership. i recently charged 350.00 for the entire job.
