2000 Prelude Oxygen Sensor - Part Interchange
Has anyone replaced their primary O2 sensor with the universal type Bosch? I get 2 part numbers from the auto parts store. 13254 BSH - This is the OEM replacement for $214.00 and the other is 15733 BSH - Which is the universal replacement style for $73.00. Obviously the universal type is much more cost beneficial. I was wondering if anyone has done this and can provide the wire color interchange between the two. I was planning on cutting the plug off of the old one and splicing it on to the new one, as I was told the two sensors are identical, except for the plug. Sounds like you are paying a lot more for the plug (supply and demand I guess) since the 2000 prelude isn't that common of a car. If anyone has some insight on this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance - Tony
remember you cant just cut wires and solder them back together on oxygen sensors, it will change the resistance in the wires and will give a different reading
Well according to Bosch's instructions, you can crimp the wires and use the supplied connector. Point well taken about changing the resistance of the wires, but you could argue that the OEM connector itself is a junction in the wire, and therefore could introduce some additional resistance.

yeah the factory connectors would be accounted for in the cars stock tune, so if that connection is changed a little it could change the way the computer is receiving the signal, making it think its getting a different value than it really is.
the wires going to my friends 98 mustang's o2 sensor broke and we tried to sodder them back together but it still didn't work right so i would suggest finding a direct plug in replacement, I'm sure somebody must make one.

You can use ebay type ;D 1998 accord v6 REAR o2 sensor, it is exactly the same, just the cable is longer, costs about $50, plug fits

Please do NOT get any Bosch sensor... I have gone through three of them in 6 months. I was going to order a direct replacement Denso from AutoZone but they wanted $233 plus tax. found it on eBay for $98 shipped. PM me if you want to know the seller on eBay. I ordered it Friday night and it was here Monday afternoon in perfect condition.

Thanks for all the help and information. I ended up replacing it with the Universal Bosch 15733. I didn't get this post in time and wanted/needed to get it fixed. I also thought it was well worth the cost ($74 bucks, plus my friend at Autozone gave me 10% off) to try it out.
The installation of the Bosch was very simple and straightforward. The wire colors matched exactly, so there is really nothing confusing about this. The supplied screw type connectors are very easy to use and the final installation is very clean. The car has zero modifications, so hopefully this will work out just fine. I'm not sure why you had gone through 3 of the Bosch brand in 6 months. I sure hope this isn't the case with mine.
If you don't mind please post the E-Bay seller for the $98 Denso, as I'm sure this will not only help me (if I got a bum Bosch), but others who may have the same problem.
Thanks again for everyone's input!
