Default just bought a honda scooter, tips on maintenance plz

its a 1980 something, Aero 50cc. was gonna get a 250 but the guy i was gonna buy it from sold it before i even got there. so only thing in my price range left was a scooter, yea yea laugh it up, but you know wat they say. start off small haha well anyways

it didnt smoke at all during the test ride. but after i dumped more fuel in. it had trouble starting, started spewing smoke, and started to hesitate during start up. i think the oil light is flashing red but goes on and off and disappears after awhile.

owner had the spark plugs replaced, so im thinking it just needs more oil. so do i use motor oil or is there a certain kind of two stroke motor oil i have to buy? or is the problem something else that hopfully some non flaming honda tech-er can help me with, also if you guys/gals could throw out some tips on keeping this old thing running well, would be much appreciated

Is it pre-mix or oil injection? Either way, add oil. There is none carried in the motor - it goes in with the gas, and right out the tailpipe. Use 2-stroke oil. Don't worry so much about the quality, it's a honda, it will do fine on pretty much anything.

well i did wat you said, and everything works fine now, only problem left is the lag. if i let the throttle all the way down it'll hit 15 and just dies off. if i stay slightly all the way, it'll peak at 25 but it'll hesitate and dies off. anybody knows how to solve this?

I just bought a Honda 50cc scooter too..... for my girlfriend as a 5 year anniversary gift (scooters are for pussies jk)

I'm in the middle of completely restoring it. Here is an excellent site for scooter info.

Kinda sounds like there is some junk in the carb. I would try taking it apart and blowing it out with compressed air

Don't forget to finance it for 49 dollars a month for the next 20 years.

bought a honda scooter?

add gas, oil if it's a 2 stroke, and ride it. That's all they're made to do.
