16's or 17's, Which is better?
Let's say i'm looking for new rims for an EG Hatch, and money wasn't an option in cases of rim size. Which size is better for performance as well as daily driving?

16's for both.
The larger the rim (assuming the same total tire diameter) means longer spokes which translates into a weaker rim.
22's on an escalade don't matter much because the rim itself is beefy, but on a car, especially a smaller car such as an import (honda civic) it's a totally different ball game.
Obviously some rims will hold up better than others, something like Mugen or Konig would cost a lot but they have some better stance in terms of durability than a 400 dollar set off ebay. Though they're still not meant to take damage. When dealing with any rim a sharp bump can dent them, generally when you're dealing with a car a ~15 or 14" steelie are the most durable (yes there are exceptions), then categorically by size as they increase they usually get less durable, 16's, 17's, 18's, etc. If you're rocking ebay knock-off 18's on a civic they'll dent or crack at the first sign of a bump.
So, a big, cheap, rim is not the greatest for daily driving.
As far as performance goes, it shouldn't matter much between a 16 and a 17 if we're talking a day at the track. Depends on how serious you are about racing. You are crossing the line into "low profile" with a 17 so **** will cost more, tires will be harder to put on (not 17's though), etc. Impacts will hurt the rim more and such. The performance is also lower - the tire slides easier.
Though in terms of overall performance it'll depend more on what type of tire you have but the rim does matter, a larger rim with a smaller tire (to maintain the total tire size) will slide more, a smaller rim such as a 14, 15, or 16" will be better for performance.
In my personal opinion as far as aesthetics go, 16's about as high as you can go on a civic w/o them looking "out of place." 17's just look too big IMO.
Get 16's, good company, and call it a day.

OEM wheels always look good, but are becoming played out IMHO...it all depends on what direction you want to take with the car, if you don't want to stand out to much, keep it OEM
i would do a set of 15's on a hatch. 16's are a little large and tend to have weird tire options. plus the ride is going to be **** compared to the 15's. the only way i would do 16's or larger on a hatch is if i had a big brake kit that required me to do so.
15's are the perfect size, there not too big and not too small. 16's get annoying after awhile and u wind up having to raise the height of the car sometimes to allow for more suspension travel.

it's not the inch, it's the DONK style ride height and unneccesary rubbing of tires that makes you rice.

My tires never rub, and I don't get what's wrong with my ride height. Not trying to start a rice/not rice battle here, I'm just gonna say that the ideas behind these ignorant arguments are juvenile and make no sense.

well it is also just my opinion, i had 17" TE37 knockoffs with 205/40/17 tires on them, they looked good but to get the drop that i found aesthetically pleasing my tires constantly rubbed.
