Hi, I have a 1995 Honda Prelude VTEC. Lately I have had some trouble getting into gear, however after running the car for some time it becomes easier. When shifting into 3rd and 5th gear. More so 5th, I get this rumbling feeling on the stick. After a while of driving I can ease it in slowly, but when first starting it rumbles as I move the stick forward increasing in intensity the further I go. I can force it it but it makes and noise (like grinding i guess/ not sure). Could it be the synchronizers? Should some new fluid help, cuz i believe it may be low. Should I only use MTF. Does it sound like it needs major repair? I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP!!!

sounds like your tranny fluid is getting old. try changing it.

 

does ur reverse work or does it grind goin into fifth? if it is .. its ur fluid in the tranny change it ..

 

ya, it won't go into reverse sometimes, but its really fine. and 5th is getting rough. So it sounds like i need new fluid. How do I replace it. (i know how really, but a step by step would make me feel extra confident since i have never done it before).

 

so should changing the fluid really help?

 

yes, depends on how severe. for the people on my local board, honda MTF cures 5th gear grind
