I am wondering what is better to run in my 1992 civic si hatch. I bought some mobil one fully synthetic transmission fluid but haven't put it in yet. Also how often should transmisson fluid be changed? Tell me what you all think, what do you all run how does it treat you? thanks -Allen
I run neo trans fluid and I change mine every 20,000 to 25,000. I think
recomends every 30,000. I like the NEO fluid I would recommend it

It says on the the bottle I have here in my hand that it offer maximum protection for manual transmissions where an API GL-5 quality oil is recommended. What is recommended for a d=series tranny? Sounds like its meant for manual and automatic trannys.
you dont buy mobil one transmisson fluid cuz thats for auto. you buy the mobil one gear oil.

Keep in mind guys that the things that make an oil good for an engine aren't necessarily good qualities for a transmission. In an engine, wear properties, heat resistance and overall friction are important. The tranny is subjected to much less of these stresses. The syncro's in a honda tranny need a certain amount of friction to work properly... meaning that if you use some super-slippery lubricant it might be great for the gears, but would result in torn up synchro's.
There's stories of people running into problems after using various synthetic oils in the transmission. Most of them seem to be heresay though. Personally, while I run Mobil1 in my engine, I choose to stick with Honda MTF for the trannies. Wear is rarely the thing that kills a tranny anyway... it's abuse such as mis-shifts, forcing into gears, etc...

Would 100,000 miles of trouble free operation of my 1992 Honda Civic with Mobil-1 motor oil as the transmission fluid sway you at all?
