Default CRX swap... obd1 swap way easier

I will start off by saying this: OBD 1 cars will be my pick to swap from now on. I would've been done in probably 5 hours on one.

I picked up a CRX shell to start my swap & didnt get many parts from it & half the heater/blower console was gone.

It started out by clearing out the rest of the interior & shelling it out. That took 4 ever cuz of the tar removal. Then installing the cage. That was last week.

These last 3 days were spent on getting the engine in, completing the dash wiring since all the plugs had been removed by the previous owner, & finding busted relays. The PGM-FI main relay is hardwired in right now. I have to go pick one up when Honda is open on Monday.

The engine was alright... we had Hasport mounts & linkage. The passenger side mount has a bolt under the mount holder that is a complete bastid to tighten down.

After getting the engine in we noticed the clearance btwn the block & front crossmember... where the JDM ITR header was supposed to go. The member was hacked to accomodate the header & while we were there we hacked off the front crossmember mountholder.

Obd1: Mount 5 places using Teg mounts. Done, No cutting to make room, Easy

Wiring wasn't too bad. I bought an adapter harness for obd1 for my p28 ecu I had. I bought the Hondata stage 4 while I was at it. I got the harness from Vernon at Raver Motorsports 559 733 4711. He also included the 3 shielded wires for the 02 sensor & the 2 vtec wires in his harness as a pigtail. That ruled!!

OBD 1: Use stock harness. Wire in 3 wires for 02 sensor. Add vtec pres & solenoid, knock, & ITB's if needed.

That was really the brunt of the swap. Everything else was cake. Figuring out vacuum hoses was pretty straight forward. The clutch cable was a pain, but we found out later that the throw out bearing pin was on wrong. That was a crucial mistake cuz the clutch engages wrong. I HATE REMOVING TRANNIES!! Give me a hydro clutch anyday.

Oh yea... I hate putting in brake boosters now, too. That was a pita getting up under the steering rack & around it to do that.

I think it will be worth it,

Pete
