91 b18a1 into 91 civic si
I've tried Civic4G, hondaswap, and superhondas without much luck as to clarifying some of these questions i have, so hopefully someone here can help me out. I assure you im not lazy and i have done quite a bit of research and scoured countless threads now. heres what i do know for the swap and what im still hazy on.
Also just a thought but as far as i can tell i cant find a single complete and entirely correct writeup on swapping a b18a into an ef chassis. plenty of b16 writeups but nothing really for the LS swap. maybe when i do mine i should document it and take pics, then create a worthwhile guide someone can follow step by step
?
Anyways, So at the moment i'm looking at pickin up an obd0 b18a1 here pretty soon for a real nice price, so before i start buying up parts, i want to make sure i know what im getting into, and that i get the right parts.
-For the motor mounts ive heard you only need the different tranny mount, and the other stock ones on the b18 will work in an EF chassis, is that the case? i'm thinkin probably not but just wondering.
-I see im supposed to beat out the left-hand frame rail to make room for the alternator pully clearance. does anyone have a pic or a more exact definition of where to start. i woudnt want to dent the **** out of the wrong area and set the motor in then realize i got the wrong area and i have to pull the engine to fix the mistake meanwhile now having two areas all dented up.
-I've seen that many people say to use 90-91 teg axles which i guess technically they do work but apparently they are too long by a little and there is premature wear caused on the knuckles cause they are compressed more then they should be once installed. I forget which site it was but some guy explained how the actual proper axle to use is the 88-89 teg axle if its a b18a goin in an ef, sound right?
-Engine harness: from what i understand since both my car and the engine i want to swap into it are obd0 and MPFI i wont have to do much as far as electrical goes. i was told i need to use the harness off my d16a6 and it will just match up to the connections on the b18a1, is that right? and then swap out the a6 ecu for a OBD0 PR4 ecu.
-Throttle cable: reference section from other site sais i'm supposed to use one from a 90 integra. is this correct, i thought the one on there now would work, is this not the case?
-Also i noticed the little cylinder lookin vaccum cannister thing on the firewall (not sure what its called but its where the vaccum lines run) is different on the teg then on the a6 and i think theres somethin called a "dashpot" on the b18 thats different too and not on the a6 block? How are the vaccum lines ran from the b18 intake to that mechanism on my si firewall. do i need one of these vaccum muhjiggers from the teg or will mine work?
-As far as transmissions go i see there are a lot of options. what do you guys recommend. I've heard people say to go with the b16 si cable tranny but others ive heard say theres problems with it so what do you guys think is best bang for the buck? i dont want to be replacing a tranny in the near future after i do this swap, or having synchros going bad on me that i'd have to deal with. Is the Stock LS tranny all that bad? ive already seen the specs and i can see the gearing isnt as great as say the gsr's YS1 transmission but at this point im just trying to figure out what my options are as far as cable transmissions go, and whats gonna be the best bang for the buck option.
Sorry for all the questions but i'd like to do this right the first time, and make sure i have everything i need, and nothing i don't.

I had that same swap if it is a si then the wires work just fine,
the integra cable trannies have a weak diff. Try to find a hydro lsd
tranny either a gsr or type r they are tuff. I broke 2 used cable trannies
I have a s1 cable tranny on my b18c5 swap and it is holding up so far.
My next tranny will be a s80 w-lsd and a hasport hydro conversion.
good luck
