true, but he wants a higher gear ratio lol, not a very low one like that FD.

You can definitely swap gears, but you should try contacting someone that has done it before to make sure that the freely spinning F22 5th gear will mesh correctly with the H22 gear that is part of the countershaft (or is it mainshaft with 5th gear?? I forget exactly....). Not that he does a lot of h22 stuff, but the user "Bense" knows a lot about transmissions.

You would have to buy gears for the main and countershaft.
If you're referring to the gears that are actually machined into the mainshaft, it's the 1st and 2nd gear that's machined into the mainshaft. The only gear machined into the countershaft is the final drive gear.

It depends. Some of the gears are press fit onto spined on the main/countershaft, and others ride on bearings. For each gearset, one gear is spined and pressed onto the main/countershaft, the other freely spins on a bearing until it's engaged by the synchro hub.
One thing to keep in mind is that when you change the 5th gearset, you have to change the gear on the mainshaft. This changes the end play on the mainshaft, so it must be shimmed back to spec. I've never had a mainshaft stay in spec after changing gears or synchro hubs. Fortunately, I have all the special tools to set the mainshaft appropriately.
According to some books I've read, For a race transmission, you can dial out all of the end play, or even dial in some preload to make the overall assembly stiffer. I personally kept everything in Honda spec on the transmissions I've built for track cars.

i was goin to change the gear on the main and counter shaft. i dont think it will be a problem. it sounds like they are interchangable. i think the longest fifth came in the prelude s and the 90-02 accord 5sp.

I'd be curious to see if you get better gas mileage. The engine will turn a lower RPM, but it'll be working harder to keep the car moving at 70 MPH (or whatever speed you cruise at), so I wonder if it'll actually net better gas mileage. Why do you say it's better for highway driving?
what is a bsfc curve. i have an f23 in an eg hatch so it doesnt work very hard to move my car around at all. i am just over 4k at 75mph on the highway in fifth. with the longer fifth i would be around 3.3k. much better for extended highway driving. that is using the fifth out of a prelude s. i am pretty sure it is the same in the accord 5sp as well.
The Prelude S Model M2L5 Transmission 5th Gear 0.705 isn't the longest..
The P2A5 Transmission from a '94 - '97 Accord DX/LX, P2U5 Transmission from a '94 - '97 Accord EX, and the P2A4 Transmissino from a '94 - '97 Accord Lx/EX Wagon have longer 5ths, 0.685.
