97 h22 block with darton mid sleeves? need head gasket
I'm building a 97 h22 block that has darton MID sleeves a ready to put the engine together, my question is what kind of head gasket would I use, if it's the 94 h22 or the 97 h22 because the 94 is closed deck and the 97 is open deck. Or if it doesn't matter wich one I use.
u use whatever headgasket for your block is which would be for the h22a4 out of the 97 lude if im not mistaken.
is ur block closed deck now or something?

i cant think of the words to explain it, so im gonna tell u to do a search either on here or google for picture info.
google H22a1 and that is CLOSED DECK
h22a4 and that is OPEN deck.
whichever it is that you have, that is the sleeve you need.

darton recommends a cometic headgasket for the 97 engine...
with the darton MID sleeves even the open deck block looks rather closed
that's why he might be confused...

The deck of the block is still "open" in the sense that the top of cylinder sleeves are exposed to the water passage. Go with whatever HG Darton recommends.
