I have a black JDM valve cover and I want to strip the paint off and repaint it the red that comes on the Type-R. What is the exact color code/name of the ITR red? What kind of paint gives the texture that a stock valve cover has.

 

ITR valve covers aren't that much money, and it's really worth it to buy an ITR valve cover instead of trying to replicate one. Sorry, but I'm just trying to give the advice I feel is best.

 

I agree...Red covers are a dime a dozen nowadays...

 

well since i got this one for FREE I'm not complaning. and i dont have a whole lot of money right now.

You will want to use VHT Wrinkle Plus Red paint (SP-204). This paint will give the exact same texture and color as the Type-R red valve cover. i got mine for just the price that it cost to ship it and m stock valve cover

 

BTW, there is no need to strip the black wrinkle finish from valve cover if you paint it with the VHT wrinkle paint.

 

i would sell it on ebay and then buy a red one.. much easier and after paying for the paint, it will probably break out even.. i bought one on ebay to paint for $80(this was for my Si, and i was matching it up with EBP paint), and sold the one off the car for $100. I don't think red ones cost a whole lot more these days..

 

Here's another "painted" valve cover. The crinkle effect was accidental: I painted it outside on a very hot and very humid day. It looked awesome! It was red with a hint of black metallic and had the anmodized effect since I sprayed the 3 colors together over a base coat of red and cleared it over twice after. Then, I left it inside my house (which I keep at about 70 degrees) to dry for 2 days....next thing I know, I gots me a crinkled valve cover!
