Default Cam gear question

A friend of mine just bought a set of Fidanza cam gears for his h22 head. The gears look like the identical size, and they slide on the cams perfectly, but they spin. The cam gears have a notch for a woodruff key, but the stock cam gear doesn't...it has a notch that fits in a slot on the cam. Does anyone know if he might have gotten a b-series cam gear? Or will he need to find some woodruff keys? The gears just spin on the cams, and when you line the notch on the cam gear with the one for the cam, it looks as if a woodfruff key might possibly not fit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
