Default Need a new commuter

I broke the shift shaft on my YZF AGAIN (3rd time). 2nd gear is so bad now that it pops out under power which caused the latest failure.

Instead of spending more money on my old bike, I want to get something newer.

I've always wanted a 98-01 VFR800Fi but they're hard to find. The other bike I like is the CBR929RR or CBR954RR which are more readily available.

Any suggestions?

I love the 98-01 VFR's, 929's and 954's.

As much as I would like to think the VFR would be better for commuting, 929's can be had for pretty cheap.

All are awesome bikes

Mine didn't do it until 53,000 miles. She'd have a tough time getting into second some times but the first time it slipped out of second, I was coming around a right and giving it throttle like a good boy should and it popped out nearly throwing me down in the process. Since that time, 2nd gear had never been the same.

I love the 98-01 VFR's - it was the final gear driven cam V4 street bike.

And for that reason alone, was one of the best sounding bikes manufactured.

I would go with the VFR for a commuter, as it sort of fills the gap between comfort and capability.

954 is hott! I'd get a fuel injected GSXR750, less chance of a ticket lol.

^^ brings back memories of the 80's... ah yes.. the padded shoulder wearing bleach blond cocaine ***** in curls, Miami Vice mullet, 5 o'clock shadow having drug dealers cuttin lines on glass, and a Countach outside the 1 million dollar beach front Malibu house.

My Schwinn, or a pair of Nikes would be my DD if I lived that close to work.

I got a real job and couldn't ride my bicycle to work anymore. My new commute is 25mi. each way. Besides, it was 1 mile each way before.

I used to bicycle everywhere before, was awesome while I was able to.

Yeah, it is a nice feeling. I ride my bicycle to work sometimes, it is 20.2 miles each way.

Another vote for a Z1000--comfy, relatively fast, badass, and cheap.

I would do it with the current distance but there are some stretches of at least 10% grades that drag out for a couple miles; sucks since it's right at the end of the commute on the way in to work.
