Default Is this a healthy spark plug?

I changed my plugs today because I was in there doing a valve adjustment anyway. I'm not sure what to look for to determine if the car is running rich or lean, so I thought I would ask the experts. The plugs had 53K on them.

Looks overheated a bit. Try one temperature rating higher plug. If you have already changed them with the same plugs, take a look at them after 5000 miles and see how the new plugs are doing.

well figuring that they had that many miles they don't look too bad, the black soot tells me you might be a little rich, but it's not on all of the plug. The blistering also looks like your running hot.

is it as bad as this one? (i had 2 like this straight from the engine)

Also if you have a Hayne's Manual, there is a page that shows what spark plugs look like if certain things are going wrong, though i sent my book off with my car when i sold it

For gods sake man, you waited 53K. The plug looks great for 53K - BTW, you had a lose of upto (rarely more) 8 WHP running those beat to hell plugs. Have fun w/ the regained power!

That goes for the rest of you - get a tune-up - do it yourself, takes few hours and just some cash...

Why you makin' me feel bad? Now I will have to go buy my ITR a present to make it up to her.

Seriously though, I thought I was doing it early because the regular service interval is 105K according to my manual.

The plugs had 53K on them.
Mine looked worse, with only 25k on them

I thought so too, until right after that shot when my camera had a seizure and broke on me. The lens is zoomed all the way out and I get an error message on screen. It tries to retract the lens, but it can't. I was glad I could upload the pics cause now the camera has to go back to Nikon...

BTW, I used a tripod for that shot cause the shutter speed was way slow in my dark garage.

I cant believe you all drive these "performance" cars and then never change
your plugs. Its akin to waiting to change the brakes until the backing plate is
eating the rotors.

I have never seen plugs look so bad or last so long. Yes go buy a gift for your R she deserves it. You abused your lady (stop smacking her around like that).
And as for the noobie here hopefully the loose chit that got in your engine did not put a hole thru the middle of your piston, and be luck it only bent the plug tip.

Funny you posted this, I was going to do the same thing tonight. I just attempted to take pics of my plugs but apparently my camera sucks ***. Couldn't even get close to your quality, not even worth posting it's so blurry.

Mine are all a light tan color... what does that mean?

light tan (according to some manuals and people on this board) color means that your car is running fine.

I guess you can get by with the service manual intervals if you drive normally. But I suspect you and I both are way behind the "servere service" schedule, don't you think?
Yeah, I just thought twice as often would be enough, not ten times as often. Well, now I know, and knowing is half the battle! Those suckers will get changed every other oil change.

If blistering, I think that you want a step "Colder" plug.

Are you agreeing with me or disagreeing?

One temperature rating higher IS a "colder" plug.

If blistering, I think that you want a step "Colder" plug.
