SI final drive into a DX , have ???'s
I have searched and searched for a few days and have talked a lot with the mechanics where I work. I work for a private Honda/Acura garage but we all used to work at a dealer. So I have a 90 STD, and was given a 90 CRX 5-spd tranny out of a DX CRX. It needs the bearings replaced, I have done this twice and am very informed in this, but I was wondering if I could change the ring gear on the diff, and install the Si counter shaft. I am planning on installing a limited slip also. I have heard and read about there maybe being differences in the SI counter shaft diameters, when co mpared to a DX counter shaft but I figured if that was so, I could just get the bearings then for that shaft and use them. If anybody has done this please let me know it's possible. All I want is the Si final drive gearing and since the Si and DX have the same gears I figured it would be an easy upgrade to a trans that has to come apart anyway for bearings. And I can get the counter shaft and ring gear for about 300 new with our parts discount.
Sorry if it's long but I am stoked about this free tranny and want to tear into it soon and make this work if I can.
I would hope for Hondas sake it would be an easy parts swap, otherwise I'll forget the tranny and seek a SI transmission.

Cool, but the link is to a ratio calculator page, I'll run around their site and try and find more info on compatability...

I think the only real difference between the Si and DX transmissions is the final drive ratios. That is purely speculation though, I've only worked with Si transmissions to date.
Maybe he'll chime in, but you could PM "mista bone" on here, he's the resident transmission guru.

Copy that...
I researched and found that the bearings on each end of the counter shaft are the same part numbers. But I'll try and contact mista bone for concrete info.

yes, the countershaft and ring gear from the Si will swap right into your DX transmission - as for the LSD, be careful with which one you get - the DX and Si transmissions use different size differential carrier bearings

That's what I was looking for,
I want to try an OBX, a man I work with has one in a b-series and lays down over 400 fwhp, (built and boosted b18c1, with type-r head and cams)...and hasn't had any problems with it.
This is just if I have to go into the trans I want to install the SI ring gear and counter-shaft, I know the diff carrier bearings are tuff but should I go ahead and replace them or not? I just wonder if pressing them off and back on another diff will be to much, and they have 225K on them now...
