Default backfire from intake

iv searched but want to make sure its timing

just put in a sohc zc in to a 91 civic sedan
wires are in right order for sure
it bogs if you pull the throttle fast but after about 1500rpm the car moves and sounds good. but it backfires out of the intake.
turned the distributor a bit and it doesnt back fire but it still bogs.
no codes or cel.
from what iv read its either the distributor is 180 degrees out or the valve timing is off a tooth. i made sure the distributor was the same as the zc before i put it on the zc (its from the old engine cuz i knew it worked) would a car even run with the distributor 180 out?

hmm sounds like exactly what happened to my a6 when i had 2 wires backwards but you said those for sure are right so im not sure : /

and your right i wouldnt expect it to run that well if it was 180 out. it would sound really unhappy lol

check and double check timing again?

you can't put your distributor on 180 degrees off it is impossible so rule that one out.

we're getting it timed soon. iv read a bunch of things where its possible to put the distributor 180 out on some cars.

only distributor wiring was the two extra wire for mpfi becuase they were soldered on so we had to cut them to get the engine out. but labled them before cutting.

my buddy did snap the banjo bolt on the fuel filter so he had to get a used bolt and the botl that the banjo bolt bolts into(thats alot of bolts lol)

Buy a timing light from princess auto (i see youre in toronto), theyre like 12 bucks, and check the timing. If you didnt adjust the timing after the swap and youve had the distributor on and off, id say thats youre problem.

id say its off a tooth , but burnt intake valves can sometimes cause backfire.

my buddies dad is buying a timing light since he can use it at work aswell..

i hope to god its not a burnt valve cuz that would mean another engine swap and im kinda tired of them at the moment. the rockers and **** under the valve cover look brand new.. and i mean it.. i want to take a picture cuz its beautifull.

did you check to see if the timing gears and crank gear timing marks line up? thats the first thing i would do. a timing light isnt going to tell you much.

i stuck a screw driver in #1 cylinder and cranked the engine till it was all the way up and checked the cam gear. looked fine but im sure checking by eye isnt the best.. why wouldnt a timing light work?
