tranny/ syncro question
i'm having a quaife lsd put in my tranny. and i was thinking while my tranny is out why not replace the syncros. i think my syncros are good i guess.
i've got the impression that those parts wont cost too much.
do you guys think this is worth it?
i will also replace the pilot bushing and throwout bearing.
also will i have to pull the motor to get the tranny out, its a 91 civic hatch with a gsr motor.

so it looks like pulling the tranny will be pretty hard without pulling the motor.
has anybody pulled a b-series tranny out of a swaped civic without pulling the motor?

You can totally drop the trans without removing the motor. I've done it on both D and B series motors with no problems.
It's only worth it if your synchros are bad. Do you grind gears often? A visual way to tell if they're worn is to inspect the teeth, they should be nice and sharp. If they're rounded off, your synchros are worn.
Always a good idea to change your pilot (mainshaft) bearing and TB, make sure you get a new oil guide and oil seal for the mainshaft as well. Visit Gearspeed if you do need the synchro set, I'm pretty sure Honda won't sell them seperately.

to update it cost about $600 more for parts and labor for the syncros and bearings. the syncros are a bit tight right now when locating 1st gear but it shifts good, but they said to break them in a bit. i probly should have just done the bearings.
