'99 Civic EX rotted out stock cat.
Well the joint from the stock cat to the replacement exhuast is cracked now. Is there a good inexpensive cat for these our '99 EX sedan. I see a lot of stainless "CATS" on Ebayfor like $30 shipped. Stainless would be cool here in New Hampshire where the salt rusts the mild steel catalytic converters out FAST! Will these "CATS" with 2.5 in and out with O2 sensor bungs pass the OBD II reading emissions test they don in New Hampshire on cars 1995 or newer?
Those $30 "stock cats" are just straight through test pipes, so in other words, they are just regular stainless steel piping with no 02 bung.
OBD II is 96+ and ^^, not 95'. You will not pass emissions unless you modify the test pipe or they say that an 02 bung is present.

All the ones I have seen on ebay that are "CATS" have a 02 bung?? Here is one I am looking at:

Well muffler shop says the cat is OK the front of the B-pipe is rotted out. I found a Marmont brand galvinized B-pipe for $88 at a local part store. Should I just paint this aftermarket mid-pipe with high temp paint and hope it last more than the three years the systems have been here in New England or should I try to find a stainless system? All the stainless systems are over sized pipes. My wife does NOT want to drive the Civic if it is MUCH louder than stock. My guess is a stainless 2.25 inch mid-pipe would not bolt into the stock diameter muffler and would be louder.
