Default My new s2k, coming from a civic.. lol PICS!

Now, fellow s2k'ers I'm new to the world of power, I've been in crappy d-series' motors all my life..
What are the best mods to do to this car? Where have you all seen significant N/A power gains from? k&N drop in, or CAI?
Post your thought, opinions or whatever.
Thanks for looking

Thanks for all the kind words guys, I am very excited..
Trust me, I've been taking it VERY easy on it thusfar, much more different than a civic..
Also, I know I need a haircut
That's getting taken care of this week.

haha what all 2-3 years of driving?

to the OT I would drive the car a little bit before modding, but a CAI and springs are a good way to start... good luck and enjoy...

Congrats!

There are no significant NA gains for the stook. You can get some moderate gains with a VAFC...but your car appears to be a '02-03 so don't expect more than 5-8whp. Greddy eManage Ultimate (not the regular eManage) may give a bit more with timing changes. AEM EMS gives the most, but is also most expensive and has a few little quirks.

CAI won't give much...but can help reduce effects of heat soak. A cheap knock-off Spoon snorkle from eBay attached to a gutted oem airbox seems to work as well as many other CAIs for less money.

Test pipe can help a bit...if you can get over the smell and get past inspection in your state.

Other than single exhausts...none give much or any power and some cost power. Singles and Invidia exhausts are LOUD. Ride in a car with the exhaust you might want before buying. Quitest single problably is the Amuse Extra Titan (not the plain Titan)...also one of the lightest...but VERY expensive. T1R 70mm probably gives the most gains...some have seen 12-15whp from that exhaust. Some exhausts can save considerable weight. OEM exhaust weighs 53lb. Singles weigh the least obviously.

Gears can help acceleration from a stop light...not as dramatic from a roll. Most prefer 4.56 ratio, but there is also 4.77 and 4.44. Downside to gears: 4.56 & 4.77 whine like a pup pulled off a bitch's tit...4.44 don't whine. Gas milage will tank.

S2ki.com has lot of good info too...but don'T go ActN like a FnF ric3r KiD, YO...you will get **** if you do. ;-)

Hope that helps...

i agree with most of the stuff you said but the 4.56's dont have whine...
http://www.ricks2k.com/products/reargears.php
third paragraph down

gas mileage wont tank... you just think it will... you wont get as good as gas mileage with the 4.77's but the performance will make up for it... and its not like youl be going from 26 mpg to 12mpg... depending on how you drive(ie:vtecing light to light compared to granny shifting at 4K) will have a considerable affect on mpg

and PS yes I know I threw the FnF quote in there... had to be done

and please dont act like a kid yourself by sPeLl1nG oUt 3v3rYw0rD l1k3 tHiS... Y0

yeah, it reduces the whine...but there is still whine, My ricks 4.56 arn't close to being as quite as the stock 4.10

no doubt 4.56, 4.77 will effect gas mileage. you are constantly driving at a higher rpm on the highway.

I have a set of 4.56 gears installed by Hardtop Guy's builder. They whine...can hear 'em over my T1R 63mm...and I'm old with bad hearing...even with my hearing aid turned down, I can hear em.

Sorry...I'm one of those **** old farts who pulls out my calculator to figure my milage with each tank. Around town milage didn't change much...went from 24mpg down to 21mpg. Highway got much much worse...went from 31mpg to 24mpg.

Thanks for all the suggestions, and praise.
I have been driving it very responsibly, no ricer flybys ect. lol
And to whomever said they saw me, I live in hillview.. so yeah that was def me.
I was going to go with probably a k&n drop in, and some sort of customer exaust system, not sure what yet, though.
All in all, I am very happy with my purchase and am glad to be in the s2k forum, you all seem very nice, and ready to help :D

As far as handling/suspension goes I am probably going to go with some coilovers, not much of a drop though, it already sits fairly low as it is..

cool. glad to know you're being classy lol. Did you mean "custom" exhaust system? I dont know how well those tend to work out. I think the S2000s stock exhaust is designed very well. You might only gain 2hp out of an expensive exhaust, or you may even lose 10 out of a cheap one. Plus the stock one is QUIET....but not so quiet that you cant hear anything. Induction noise sounds way better on those cars anyway IMO. lol i like loud intakes and quiet exhausts.

Now go cut your hair...and get a job.

Also, I do have a job.. I definitly would be able to pay for my s2k if I didnt.. lol

i just like telling people to "get a job". that's all

I have an AEM CAI. VTEC sounds like the apocalypse. I really like it. It's kinda ugly...which is very un-me to put an "ugly but functional....but ugly" part on my car. But whatever. The S2000 looks good enough lol.

Get the Injen... Ive driven in both stock AP2's with just an AEM and an Injen and for some reason the growl of the Injen is beefier than the the AEM... Also, it does look prettier... its a lil more expensive but talk to fridaytech and tell him i sent you... he'll hook it up...
