Default My First Attempt at DIY Carbon Kevlar... CTR / Circuit Hero Induction Box

With all the fancy CF/CK parts all over the place, i figured i'd give it a shot to try and make my own. Of course i wanted to divert from the typical ECU covers, gauge plates, etc... that people usually make, i decided to play with my newly acquired Mugen/CTR Replica airbox. I had one of these on my old EM1 and sold it to a friend, i was going to buy it back along with a carbon kevlar intake arm but before i could do so, his car was stolen

Luckily, i found another one here on H-T for $35 shipped. I couldn't pass that up, so i had it shipped to me (thanks vtecftw!) and began my project.

All my materials, airbox, resin, carbon kevlar

oohhhh, aahhhhh

there was a little nipple thing on top of the airbox that i had to sand down

mocking up..

and then i brushed on the resin! resin is incredibly messy to work with.

dried and trimmed of excess!

test fitting onto the airbox. fits like a glove

i decided to paint the bottom portion of the box high temp matte black..

and then i installed a circuit hero velocity stack

after sealing with high temp RTV for an air-tight seal, final trimming, and installation, it was done!

Let me know what you think. The edges could be a little better, but it was my first time with no experience whatsoever. I think it came out ok, and it's something that nobody else has

I got all my stuff from:

http://www.ebay.com

looks great, carbon/fiberglass work can be tedious, but rewarding as shown above

Looks pretty good man now sand it down and clear it and you will be good to go.

Did you leave the air box under it?

Unfortunately i did, i figured that'd be easiest for a first timer, however halfway through once i got the hang of it i was definetely kicking myself for not having used release to remove the airbox later on. oh well, live and learn

I'm not a huge fan of Carbon Kevlar but it looks like you did a real good job!

Not bad for a first time. A little wave going on with the pattern, but looks good for the only bling under the hood.
