Lsvtec ECU question
I currently have LSvtec in my whip, I am doing a turbo kit on it I just have a question about ecu, a friend said to convert to obd1 from obd0 cause it easier to tune, and he said i cant get a tuned ecu from someone else (eg i got a tuned p28 for someones eles's turbo setp) i couldnt convert the harness and plug in...I am just wondering on your thoughts, experience on this, any input would be awesome
Yes, you will need to convert to OBD1 and run some kind of tuning software, there are many out there to choose from. You shouldn't use a pre-tuned ECU from another setup because even with the exact same setup in the exact same car, your tune may need to be slightly different.

No, there's nobody that makes tuning software for OBD0 ECUs as far as I know.

Zydnye, and turbo edit are both obd0 tuners. Also a few people can and will burn custom chips for you.
But yes as you said earlier... obd 1 is a ton easier and better.

I knew I was wrong. I should have said that there is better tuning software available if you go OBD1. But then again, I have little experience with FI setups / tuning.

All this being said I am going to be running OBD0 on my LS/VTEC because there was not a ton of advantages for my application for OBD1. And everything was weighed out parts cost that I had vs parts costs that I would need to convert. So final decision was OBD0

Don't go preaching the gospel if you don't know what you're talking about. That's one step short of a lie, and we call it talking out your ***.
There is absolutely no reason to convert to OBD1 unless you have some super special need for a feature that doesn't exist (yet) for OBD0. Save yourself a bunch of money, get a PR3 or PW0 and tune with that. I have a PR3 on a B18C5 and it runs like stock, maybe better. I have the O2 sensor disabled to run on the maps 100% of the time, and it gets 30+mpg with big cams, and I drive like an *** half the time. Oh, did I mention that it has autotune, so I sit back and watch it tune AF ratios by itself? With free software? Yeah...
So instead of getting info from some internet hero, do a little research on the options availible for OBD0 stuff. You can tune anything with it to run exactly like OBD1 stuff. All the engine cares is if it gets the right amount of fuel and the spark at the right time. OBD0 does the exact same thing OBD1 does, and you don't have to get a $200 ecu, $100 wiring harness and a $75 distributor; just plug it in.
Read up on http://forum.pgmfi.org for more info on OBD0 tuning. There's a lot to know, but a little reading will fill you in on the basics about what it can do and what you need to get started.

I know, I was just trying to be helpful and it totally backfired, I'll take it as a learning experience. May the EF forum gods forgive me.

Ok ok, I give in.... I drive like an ***!! There, that's the first step towards recovery, if I were into recovering from that sort of thing.

hey doc, since I'm a lazy *** noob and don't want to search can you do launch control "2 stage/2 step" on obd0?
Frankly I still like tuning on crome better then anything obd0 offers, but that's just me
I don't blame you for not letting toad tune your car, he'll see no holley double pumper get scared and claim your car is using black magic and then trys to burn the witch.
I've seen it happen. He kicked me in the head since he couldn't find the carb choke

Yep, I have it on my PR3. It's extra fun when you don't have an exhaust, just a turndown at the header. It makes babies cry.

Don't get me wrong, Chrome's interface is awesome, and it has great support and features as well as being rock solid stable. It has limited (and sometimes wrong) support for OBD0 stuff, but for OBD1 it can't be beat. Unfortunately it doesn't support autotune on OBD0, and for OBD1 you have to have the paid version. BRE is the greatest tuning software for OBD0, and it's 100% free. Ben Ogle is the man, and has helped me personally on some bugs I've found with it. The interface isn't as slick, and it doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it tunes a car damn well.

Todd?!?! Tune a car!?!?! You'd be better off getting Brutus to do it, except you'd have to clean all the fur out of the air filter afterwards...

I guess if you use a two-timer you could 2 stage/2step.
But I'm not 100% sure I know what you mean by 2 stage/2step.

</TD></TR></TABLE> That's awesome! I've not played with obd0 in a long time now. I love my 2 stage, it's a great thing to start using when grandma is in her mazda protege base model at a red light
Very cool to hear that BRE is supportive and still around. I have the crome pro so, for me it's just what I learned to tune on plus with pro might as well do obd1.
Thanks for all the help
