Default SCCA - STS2 class.... Can I run a D16Y7??

I have a 1991 CRX Si, and I want to be running in the STS2 class for SCCA autocrossing. It seems to be that the rules say you're only allowed an engine that was available in that model for that year. How strict is that? I ask because finding an A6 around here is getting really hard, and I have a Y7 sitting in the shop that needs a rebuild... I figure it shouldn't be too big of a deal, especially considering I'd be losing 2hp in the process

It doesn't matter if you want to swap a CRX HF engine into a del sol VTEC, it's still illegal for STS2. You would have to run SM2 with your Y7 even if the car is otherwise STS2 legal.

Rules are rules. They are not meant to bend just for your convience. Which I know sucks since I need a new engine too.

Ok cool. I was just wondering if they would allow an "equivalent" motor. Thanks for the help!

I really dont mean to threadjack, but would he be able to use a motor from the same year crx but from a lower trim and still stay in STS? It would be the same model sorta, but different trim of that same model.

there is no Update/Backdate allowed in STS
you could run CSP, and use any engine from the EF lineup in the EF chassis.
still couldn't use a D16z6 in a CRX though. that would put you in Street Mod.

For STS..
if you have a 91 civic DX, it has to have that engine. You could have an 88 HF engine in the car, and technically it would be against STS rules. though i doubt anyone would protest that since it's a disadvantage.

Nope. Just for fun/experience this year. I was planning to see what class I would need to prep for though for next year.
