Semi OT: Whats the best car to have next to an ITR in the garage?
Sorry for drifting alittle off topic here.. but i thought i'd get more intelligent responses on this end of the forum.
My mother is beginning to look for a new car.. she may end up getting it as late as this time next year. I'll have ALOT of influence over her as far as what car she'll end up getting. I've look at our new garage with my ITR in the middle and been wondering which is the best car for her to park next to mine.
Our considerations have been:
A new M3
A second hand WRX STi MY00
A brand new WRX STi MY02 (or whatever will be the latest)
Lancer EVO 6 (if we can get one that is)
A New Mercedes E320
RX8
Lexus IS300
I decided against using polls as experience shows honda-tech don't act too kindly towards them.
What do you guys reckon would be the best car for "mummy", we MUST have rear seats, 4 doors is a PLUS, mum loves manual.
At the moment the M3 is what i want her to get the most but she absolutely hates the look of the car and she hates 2 door cars.. as for the EVO there are too many lancers with evo bodykits out there, and i DONT like the IS300.. so depending on how good the RX8 turns out to be it may end up becoming a fight between the M3 and E320. Performance vs Comfort.
We CANNOT go anymore expensive than that it's just wayyy out of our price range
What do you reckon, and what points should i point out to mum to try to get her to buy the M3!! (So i can drive the damn thing myself!!)

FWIW, Evo magazine (a UK enthusiast car mag) rated the 02 STi higher than the E46 M3 (and higher than a 996 w/ sport suspension, for that matter).

I live in the Midwest, so because of our climate(ie shitty winters) I would say:
1) EVO VII
or
2) WRX or WRX STi (if it makes it here to the US)

From looking at the topic I thought this question was in regards to a second car for an ITR owner, so to answer in that spirit I'd say that something like a TL-S would be an excellent garage-mate/daily driver. Why? Because it fulfills the roles that the ITR is ill-suited for, namely comfortable, roomy transport for more than two people. It would also be a superlative all-weather, long-distance cruiser, especially with the GPS option, and having only one dealership to go to for service and such simplifies things. And it packs a lot of content for the price.
Now, to answer the question as you intended, I would say that out of those choices the car that both catches my fancy and would appear to appeal to your mom would be the IS300 with a 5-speed. They are truly wonderful cars to drive, moreso than the numbers would suggest, and again, pack a lot of content for the price.
Then again, I don't like the E46 M3, so my own bias may be shining through.

get her a matching R...
I know theres a "racer" within her deep down inside she wants to unleash it. But getting another R is probably going too downhill for her she'd probably want to go upscale alittle bit since this maybe one of the last cars she'll buy in her life.
By the way.. i'm in Australia. Evo 7 isn't available here and i don't know if it ever will be. There are some Evo 6's out there that were released awhile ago i beleive.. and at the moment the Ralliart Magna's are out at the moment as well (but i'll NEVER let her buy a magna)
They're bringing the Viper to Australia soon too but obviously mum'wise thats out of the question to buy.
WRX STi's are very very cheap they're like 55k AUS (31k US) but i'd still rather her getting an M3..
Either way i'm positive that i'd like to test drive ALL OF THESE CARS.

Have your mother buy something luxurious. Either a new M3, S4, or if you want to save some money, the IS300 will be nice. You don't really want your mother to be driving a WRX if you could be driving something even more pimp.
I've suggested the S4.. dubbed as the "grown up's" WRX?
She hates audi's and she hates the look of the audi's
Scoobie looks good at the moment, cause then she will know whether she would prefer the performance and fun factor out of the M3 or the comfort and prestige of the E320 right after the Scoobie

Aussies don't get 4dr BMW M3? That would be a cool ride for your mother.
If not, just get her a E320 or Lexus/Toyota equivalent. IMHO, there's really no sense in getting something "fast" for our parents unless that's their top priority (which never is). Luxury is good for our parents... and E320, M3, etc have plenty of power and speed on the freeway.

well...i guess you are rich enought...so i'll say...get another type R and if your mom doesn't like 5speed, conver to a auto trans ..
