no oil pressure but temp is going up (rebuilt engine, initial start up)
Hey guys I need ur help. Like the topic states. I had a melted spark plug so I pulled the head off my 94 ls to have it rebuilt. Since my car has 205xxx miles I figured I build my bottom end for more boost.
set up :
stock head (rebuilt)
cp pistons 81.5mm 9:1
eagle h beam rods
clevite rod & main bearings
new oem head gasket
new oem water pump
new timing belt
log manifold
t3/t04e .50/63 turbo ebay
cca intercooler
dsm 450
38 mm wastegate ebay
type s bov ebay
aem fuel rail
aem fuel pressure reg
aem fuel filter.
ok I put engine together myself. everything was going good until I got ready to do my initial start up. I disabled my dizzy & fuel relay with no spark plugs in. When I went to start it up to get the oil pressure up the starter didn't sound like the typical honda. It sounded like never disengaged. I'm thinking that since the battery has been sitting since april I thought that would be the reason for it not disengaging. So after about 30 second my oil pressure never went up. Would this have anything to do with my battery? I went to take out the stater and put it back in so I could try to build up my oil pressure. well this time when I turned the ignition on my temp guage was almost like the car was at normal operating temp. Is this suppose to happen for such a short period of time?Did I just ruin my engine? I only cranked it once for 30 second.
Thanks in advance.

"0" oil pressure and temperature rising????....sounds to me you have a bad oil pump. The culprit may be your crank bearings going bad...causing your crank to literally "slap" and damage the oil pump.
well the bearings are new and within spec, new thurst washers, and new oil pump. how long should I crank the car to build up pressure? Don't want to damage my new engine.
well if ur running a new oil pump then it won't be ur problem. how much oil do you have in it right now? i would say that most of the time you can fill it about an extra half liter when engine is new and nothing has oil. also check the head (through the oil cap to see if in fact oil is being pumped through the engine. i hope it all works outfor you. don't forget some guages can come with defects. hard to say why the engine is getting hot. feel the block. is it actually getting hot? it's shouldn't get hot at all if it's not running
If the gauges are electronic and they have sender units that use similar voltages, there's the possibility that you have the oil pressure gauge hooked up to the temp sender and the temp gauge to the oil pressure sender.
no I never started the engine for fear of ruining my walls. the guage is mechanical. I never checked the block to actually see if it was hot. my car is black and I noticed today the b4 I even tried to prime the oil pump my temp guage moved a little. But how long can I turn the engine over before the assembly lube wears off? thanks for the replys guys.

If you have a Mech. gauge and you cranked the motor for about 30 sec and it never went up.
1st i would make sure the gasket on the pick-up is good. if it has a leak its light trying to drink pop with a straw that has a hole in it..dont work out too good
2nd. the assembly lube is very thick it takes a while for it to wear off.
3rd. what kinda mech gauge you have.. faze, autometer. etc.
as for the oil pressure not going up its not battery related. Its mechanical.

thanks for all the replies guys. I was worried about the assembly lube coming off. this is my first engine build and a good learning experience. well I just wasn't turning the engine over long enough. I have good oil pressure now. thanks for all your knowledge guys. now I just have to get it tuned.
