i have done my searching and referenced parts on manhonda.com. i just want to make sure i have everything right. i know that i can put a y8 head on my d15b7 block, but what i can not find out is do i have to drill the oil passage on the block for the head or not. also am i correct in assuming that i need an td-42u dizzy for the y8head? the head is on a 96 d15z1 block right now. i know that is obd2. and i know i am obd1. i wish to stay obd1. i know that i need a p28 ecu i just want to make sure that i have my info right before i go buying. thank you

Yeah, you have to remove the oil passage plug.
Just screw a screw deep into the plug - and get a pair of pliers - and pull it out.
As for the distributor, the 42u is for the '92-'95 EX (Z6) - it's a OBD-I dizzy.
I'm not sure if there's a difference between the Z6 and the Y8 dizzy, but if you get the Y8 dizzy you'll just have to wire an OBD-I plug on it.

Nice new avatar btw.

all bolt patterns are the same between 1988-2000
EXCEPT 92-95 d15z1 and d16z6.
96-00 all, 88-91 all, 92-95 non-vtec and non-vtec-e = same bolt pattern.

OooO
Well I knew about the bolt-patterns - but there's no difference otherwise between VTEC and non-VTEC dizzies as far as the guts go?
I was just wondering becuase VTEC and non-VTEC distributors are sold as different part numbers.

syndicate and bese thanks for the help, i have the same question about the dizzy's as syndicate does. are there any internet differences between the non-vtec and the vtec and vtec-e? i ask this because i want to take a d15z1 head and put it on my d15b7. however, is this head a vtec-e? the head number is a p07-1 if it is a vtec-e in short, would it be worth it? i dont know what dizzy is on the head right now, but it is obd2 and does not bolt up right. and thanks for the oil passage advice sundicate. true help once again shines. but if you can answer that for me bense i would appreciate it. thank you.
From what ive learned, there is no difference between VTEC and nonvtec when it comes to dizzy.
As to why they are listed as different parts from the dealer, i dont know.
One example, is that they list the coupe and sedan (ek) sideskirts as different parts, but i have matched my sideskirt to a coupes, and they are the exaxt same size.

You do realize that this is like 12:1 compression right?
There's one oil passage. It's that plug in the block on the cold side between #2 and #3 cylinders. you pull it out with a flathead and never think about it again. That's the only plug that you have to worry about with d-series

i thought NA honda's were known for their high compression. but i am right that this head is a vtec-e head yes?
EDIT--- another question is the d15z1 has the throttle body that points up. the d15b7 i have the intake and t.b are like any regular pgmfi intakes. whats the difference?

Yeah, the Z1/P07 is a VTEC-E head.
So you'll need a Y8 dizzy to run it - or convert a non-VTEC dizzy to run it in accordance with that link.

that's the d16y7
the d15z1 head is garbage. it's good for one single thing. low rpm gas mileage.
