Default Help! broken coolant temp sensor

Would a broken coolant temp sensor cause a jdm b16a vtec not to kick in, or redline at 8000 rpm? Because I just bought a 1990 civic si with jdm b16a swap, The coolant temp sensor is broken off. Would that cause lost of hp? Not being able take it to 8000rpm with a chipped ecu? AS of now i can only take it to 7000 rpm.

Yes, the ECU needs to read the engine temp as being warmed up in order to engage VTEC.

As for a tranny, look for any B16 tranny that is not cable, for example the JDM B16a tranny, or even any USDM 99-00 Civic SI tranny.
