1991 civic wagovan!

hey everyone i got a little problem on my hands......i borrowed a car from a buddy of mine until i found a car. well i got a car about 2 weeks ago and the car has sat since then. when i was driving it daily the check engine light went on and off from time to time but had no problems. i moved the car 2 days ago and it was fine. my step dad moved the car yesterday and left the lights on and killed to battery. i got the battery recharged and now the check engine light is on and stays on. it is in fail safe mode. wont rev about 3k when in nuetral or driving. if you punch it while in nuetral or while driving in 3rd,4th, or 5th at really low rpms it alomst sounds like it cutting out or skipping. someone please help i gotta fix this. oh yeah and when you turn the car without starting it the light comes on like it should then goes off. then when yous start it, it instantly comes on.

Well it sounds like the CEL is coming from a moving component or a something that interecepts information while the car is running, thus the light not being on while the car is off, then coming on as soon as you start it. Have you tried to run the code to see what it is?

 

no i was going to wait till i go back to work on tuesday. i was just wondering if anyone had similar issues and could tell me the problem
