idle problems

idle problems
mt friend has a 96 civic ex, with a d16z6(thats the way he bought the car) Car starts up perfect and idles perfect, bu after about 5 minutes of driving, when you stop the car idles up to 2000, then drops to 1000, and back up to 2000, then 1000, etc. What could it be? thanks for all the help guys i really appriciate this.
