Oil in Your GSR
Hey just curious to see what everyone is running in their GSR's.... And how much oil they burn between changes... I switched to 10w-40 Royal Purple from whatever they were putting in it before I had it... I burned about 1/2 a court between changes, hittin alot of VTEC..
mobil1
0w40 (my brother had an extra case lying around so i figured why not
)
coming up on my 3k mile interval and it's down about a half quart.

'94 GS-R with 168,000 miles
full synthetic oil (Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum)
5W30 viscosity (which Honda recommends as preferred at all temperatures)
burns 1 quart every 1300 miles

it depends on how many miles on motor, what kind of driven conditions, piston ring wear, cylinder heads, gasket leaks. I've seen a gsr motor burn 1 quart every two days. your questin is too general.

i use 5w30 mobil 1 full synthetic.
every 3k
but i heard its better if you use 10w30 if your car is over 100k. Supposedly to prevent oil leaks and burns because its a thicker blend.
Any feedback if that information is correct? or should i just stick with 5w30

Mobil 1's 5w30 has a tendency to sheer to a 20 weight after less than a thousand miles as oil analysis' have shown. I would avoid that weight if I were you.

My GS-R has 256,000 miles on it.
I've been using Valvoline MaxLife 5w30 since about 115,000 miles (so nearly 150,000 miles now).
After 3K miles it's only lost about 1/2 quart, which is perfectly normal for most any car, I would think.
And yes I do take it into VTEC every now and then.

I know it's not a GS-R but i'll chime in anyways, Amsoil 5W30, just over 130k on the LS right now. No consumption after 4-5000 mile oil change intervals whether it's using conventional or synthetic (previously used Valvoline and Havoline before switching to Amsoil)
