Default cold air vs short ram

Some people have been telling me that a cold air intake is better than a short ram while others say Hondas make more power with a short ram. So what is better?

CAI. SHot rams may allow more flow just like a Cold Air, however it's sucking hot air from the engine bay.

the best intake is one that's tuned to the correct length on a dyno

It's true. Although vtec motors tend to perform well (as a generalization) with a short and fat intake tube, that has its filter element enclosed in a box that draws cold air from outside of the engine compartment. The Comptech Short-ram, with their IceBox was a very nice setup in terms of response and power gained.

seriously....why is there a discution about 1/4 of a hp. As far as an intake, get the style/color/look/price you want. You're not going to see anything dramatic. Obviously getting the coldest air possible is the best, however there are many factors and variables that don't add up to 1 hp.

Both should give you different results. Short rams will get you better low end where as Cold airs will give you more high end power.

correct me if i am wrong, but i believe short rams have better high and cold air's have better low.

i personally got the AEM SRI for my Gs-r, because on that thing i posted earlier, got the best HP out of ANY intake that they tested

but they did say that heat from the engine might change the numbers, but if you really think about it after 10mph i bet it doesnt make a big difference

then it also rains alot in WA, so i wanted to be safe, plus then your filter i would think wouldnt get as dirty...

I was also debating a SRI or CAI.... I ended up getting a SRI since I live in Canada, and I didn't wanna get into trouble with the snow + rain. I like it. AEM Short Ram Intake

I know it's "been beaten to death" but when I looked at the graphed results for SRI and CAI at the top of both it says not to compare SRI results to CAI results and vice versa, any idea why they say that?

Just go with whatever you like the most.. If you want a short ram... go for it.. CAI.. more power to ya! Doesn't make that big of a difference.

they make power in different parts of the powerband

Thats just stupid, how much hot air is in a engine bay when your doing 40mph down the road? Only time you will loose power from heat is when idling at a stop light.

I think I will go for a SRI .. the price is cheaper than a CAI , and I think it will do the same thing that a CAI .. it's true that the CAI take more cold air , but for the power difference .. the SRI can do the job ! That's my opinion . The SRI can be less trouble than a CAI in the rain , snow , etc. depending in witch conditions you ride your car

I honestly dont know why people like CAI's, a short ram is much better all around. Cheaper, better throttle response, no risk of damage, plus it sounds better too! Only thing a CAI has on a SRI is it gets slightly cooler air, but once your moving that isnt really a issue.

short ram for cost, ease of installation, ease of cleaning filter, sound, less chance of hydrolocking, and looks (imo).

btw i have an aem cai, but never drive my car in the rain anyways.

You should be asking yourself, since you probably read a bunch more of this pointless thread, and took the time to write another pointless addition to it. Good job keeping it alive though.
