Default Where to apply anaerobic sealant to rocker arm assembly on a D16Z6.

My shop manual syas to apply anaerobic sealant to bearing caps 1 and 6 where they contact the head. What the hell are bearing caps? And where are 1 and 6. There are no illustrations in the manual to show where to apply it (Need to get a Helms, these Haynes and Chiltons aint cutting it.) and my n00bne55 is getting the best of me.

use gray RTV or Hondabond if you can get it.

it needs to go on the far left and far right mating surface of the head, where the rocker assembly meets it.

this is what the guy at the parts store told me...but it still doesnt make sense to me....i understand where you are talking about but the "bearing caps 1 and 6" throws me off...well i put everything back together and without any sealant...broke a bolt in the process and put a little mark in the cam (not sure if this is a hugely bad thing??) to make a real long story short i just got this car and it is overheating really badly...so....during diagnosis of the problem is how i found oil in the spark plug tubes...that is fixed but the bigger problem is the overheating...i have come to the conclusion (on my own) that i have a blown head gasket...i traded even with someone on craigslist for my truck...i am a little dissapointed because i was selling for 3500 and he was selling for 3200 but i traded even bc i really wanted the car, it just sucks that this car was not worth 3200 (anyone know what it is worth with a BHG and possibly really sick engine)... i am excited to learn and fix this car and do what i can myself and that is why im here....please help!!!

the bearing caps, as you may know are the part of the rocker arm assembly that makes up the upper half of the camshaft journals (bearings). in general these are numbered starting at '1' nearest the belts or "front" of the motor. so #1 and #6 would be the far left and the far right cap/journal/bearing holding the camshaft in if you're looking at the car head on. i hope that helps. that's the clearest description i can give.

sounds like you're in a pretty big pickle now that i know the whole situation. my suggestion for you would be to start looking for a deal on a low mileage used short block (typically the engine without manifolds and disributor). swap it in and sell the old one for parts or for scrap. if for nothing else, you'll save yourself a huge headache.

my reasoning for this is that the motor you have sounds neglected and abused. you may fix the headgasket and find another problem soon after all the work and investment (time and money) like you already have with the oil leak. pull it out and start fresh.
