reno-fernley raceway
has anyone tried out this track? This place looks really tempting because buttonwillow is so damn far away. The thing that is unattractive is it's RFR track permit of $200/yr. Is this required for everyone without a competition license? I also can't find the break down of how a typical open track day is like. they said 20 minute sessions, but didn't say how many sessions per group, the number of groups, nor how many cars in each group.
oh and one last question.. what is the difference between "Open test and tune vs. Trackday"?

i haven't yet run it, but i will be in 2 weeks with SCCA
i don't know what the RFR track permit is, never heard of it, and i didn't have to pay (i don't have a competition liscense)
open track days are usually 4-5 20 min sessions.
difference between open test and tune and a track day is that on the test and tune days, you'll be on track with full race teams, with open passing all over the track. track days will be separated by experience, and passing will be controlled to only in passing zones. they aren't usually very beginner friendly.

its kinda of a crappy place to go. It is really hot and high in elevation so cars don't tend to run well.
From the people who ran there that i know they really don't have an urge to go back.
Have you looked at thunderhill, and Sears Point?

i dun think sears point have open track days. that track is so famous, they'll make more money off of large sponsored event than small lil track day events.
Thunderhill has a LOT of straights. i think their track days are kinda expensive too around 400-500 if i am correct. however, they are popular with the corvettes, rx7, and other high horse power vehicles.
i love buttonwillow, but it's just too far. i am sure it's just as hot there than it is in reno-frenley. the last time i went to BW was like 110F by noon.
to WRONGWD: how much is a SCCA membership? that's what you have to avoid the RFR track permit right? also how is track day not beginner friendly?

sears point does have open track days, and its by far my favorite track
Thunderhill is really not a very expensive track. its not my favorite though... but it's not terrible
buttonwillow is awesome. i love that track.
i believe an annual scca membership is $60; and like i said i have no idea what an RFR permit is, i have never heard of it before
track days are definitely beginner friendly
it's the test and tune days that aren't, sorry if i was unclear
