chassis flexing when jacking/raised?
OK i hope you guys don't think this is a stupid question.. my car is a 95 and has been in some slight fender benders but nothing serious and nothing to damage the frame... it also has neuspeed strut tower bars (front and rear, rear lower) and also ST anti-sway bar kit... its dropped on Koni yellows and Eibach sportlines and sits on Dunlop SP9000's .. it handles like a dream but this is all irrelevant to my question (except maybe the bars?)
anyway when I jack up my car on the front off center jacking point it sort of creaks/makes noise a little im sure its from the weight transfer putting load onto the rear shocks or whatever.. so this is normal right? ...
I was bleeding my brakes, checking my brake pads, and had the wheels off/car in the air on jack stands and needed to open the door (to pump the brake pedal to do the brake bleed).. I noticed that my door didn't open and close smoothly.. it seemed kind of out of alignment (only when car is jacked up).. is this normal? or is it because of small accidents? when the car is on the ground on its wheels and not on stands.. the door opens and closes fine.. but when its up in the air/on jack stands.. the door seems to have a little more trouble opening and closing.. is this normal? thanks in advance for any replies..

cool thanks guys.. just wanted to know if this is normal on non crashed cars or if it was cuz of my small accidents.. thanks a lot for your replies!!! H-T
how about the door question? is your door harder to open and close on a non crashed car when its raised?

That is not normal. I open and shut the door all the time when I have it jacked up when I need to get something inside the car. I think I did that ~10times last weekend. The door doesn't feel any tighter or looser when jacked up. The car does creak a little when jacking up though. But the car is so stiff that I noticed both the wheels on the one side of the car were off the ground when I jacked up one corner.

It doesn't matter where I jack up the car, whether at the side jack points, or the front or rear jackpoints, the doors will still open and shut perfectly fine. The chassis shouldn't flex so much that the doors don't open and shut perfectly fine.
It depends on where you jack your car up. The chassis i built to flex, it is not one solid piece of metal. That is the whole purpose of strut bars and braces, to remove some of the flex around the joints.

well I jack my car up using a 3.5 ton SUV jack from the front/off center jacking point and then I support it w/ 3 ton jack stands using the stock jacking points (behind front wheels.. where you would use the stock/emergency jack).. so w/ the car jacked up and supported on the jack stands.. my door doesn't exactly open and close all that well.. I mean I CAN open and close it have to give it an extra push or something.. but its not as "smooth" as when the car is on the ground/all 4 corners on its tires... seems kinda of like the door alignment is off when the car is in the air/supported on jack stands.. when its on the tires the doors work perfect and open and close perfect.. its only when its raised and supported on jack stands... is this normal? or its due to my accident?
I'm getting mixed answers.. so I don't know.. anyone w/ a non-crashed/never been in an accident teg have any input? I was bleeding my brakes so I had to open the door to pump the pedal.. I never noticed this before..

I asked this question before and some guy told me to put my Ebrake down and it would stop... So I did and it did.
Dont know if you keep yours up but it helped me.

Well, I don't know what to tell you, but on my car, the doors are just as smooth whether it's jacked up or on the ground. I was bleeding my brake fluid and my clutch fluid last weekend, and we had either end jacked up at some point. And I was sitting in the driver's seat pumping the pedal, and I got in and out a whole bunch of times with the car still up and the door was smooth opening and closing, with me sitting in the car (while jacked up) or standing outside of the car.
I don't remember the doors of my friends' car being not smooth when jacked up either. Hopefully someone will jack up their car and try the doors and let you know either way.

My doors are harder to open & close on my teg when the car is jacked up. When I had my Civic it did the same thing also.

ok thank you everybody for your responses... yeah I think I would rather have my door not smooth when the car is up than release my e-brake and risk safety to myself, others, or my car... its not really a biggie as when the car is on the ground (on its wheels and tires) the door operation is smooth.. I was just curious as to whether the dragging effect was because of my accidents or not.. thanks everyone
I think creaking comes from the brakes and suspension. As far as the door issue, there can be a problem opening and closing depending on how your door is positioned. I used to have this problem on one of my hondas. I don't remember which though
One of my mustangs used to have the same problem.
Our tegs are not full frame, so the strong torsional force on the chassis from jacking could cause issues with the doors. My mustangs did not have subframe connectors(common mod for them). This may have been the reason for the problem there also.
While I am rambling. Is there a subframe connector for a teg?
