My "Monet"....my 97 ITR #?
I say MONET, b/c when you get up close it is really not as clean as it is from a distance....ha ha!
I washed, clay barred, and waxed her.....
I really need to Porter Cable polish her, and she would look a lot better......she has tons of fine scratches and a lot of pressure dings....
I had my buddy at Dent Wizard give me an estimate to go through the whole car.... He said it would be between $700-900 with the majority of work concentrating on the hood...(hail damage)

BTW.... I have been working w/ Andyt trying to figure out the badge #
He has it narrowed down to between 127-132
He needs a little more info...
"andyt: If you could fine another 97 owner whos last 4 of the VIN is close and knows their badge # it would help alot."
If someone has this info please pm me or andyt w/ the info so we can get closer to matching a 97 itr w/ its badge #
Thank you

No, it wouldn't, because the badge number is not correlated to the VIN.
Alas, unless you can contact a previous owner who knows what the number was, or a dealer recorded it at the original time of sale, not even the ghost of Soichiro Honda himself can get you the badge number.

Same boat here man, I got hail damage a few years ago and decided to pocket the money and put it towards a down payment on a house and now I wish I would have gotten it fixed, but I guess it went to something good. I replaced the hood, but now I'll just have to get some PDR done.

heck, if not for the mis-matching vin numbers... i think you'd be better off with a new hood!

I don't think you can fully restore a hood unless you take off all the bracing underneath to get to all the dents and then re weld the bracing back on, which by that time you could just buy a new hood and paint it for much less of a hassle

there isn't anything that bad with her under close scrutiny. Maybe you're just being a beeesh

You're right, but you're wrong.
Its not that the badge correlates to a VIN, its that I personally have never seen a badge number be lower than the position of the VIN in a given years list, this has held true for every VERIFIED 97 and 98 badge # VIN combo I have seen.
In other words his VIN was 125th of the 97s. Based on the "drift" that I can calculate for any given position, I feel justified in guessing that his likely to be in the 127-132 range.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, and you're entitled to try making an educated guess, but there is no direct correlation between the two numbers. If you're going to be guessing anyway without any means of positively identifying the badge number, it strikes me as wasted effort. You'd do just as well to simply label it 97-0000 or to pick whatever number you personally like best. To each, his own, though.

I'm working on a similar project as Andy and I can say yes there is a correlation. It may not be perfect, but as you gain more and more VIN/badge matches you begin to see a pattern. Plus you can eliminate possible badges because of known owners, location, history. I PMed the OP already and gave him evidence that his is not 126, 131(99% sure) or 132. Narrow it down......
It's not about having any number, only the # she left the factory with. Some people could care less, fine. To each his own.

I can certainly understand the desire to have the number, and of the various methods that people have attempted over the years in order to determine it (even to the point of trying to contact Honda/Acura directly), I agree that your educated guessing and process of elimination is likely the best available.

And at this point, if I had to put money on it, I would say its 128.
So now the best thing to do would be to find that original owner, get em on the phone, and start asking questions. It's probably alot easier to jog someones memory if you have something close, rather than no idea at all.
