*HELP* Calling all 1989 and 1990 Civic Owners!
heres the story:
i have a set of JDM DC2 recaros that ive been itching to get into my car. so i call up WEDGE ENGINEERING and order some brackets for my 1990 Si Hatch.
Everything in my car suggests that it is a 1990, bumper, interior color, the position of the hazard light etc..
I get them in the mail yesterday and they absolutely do not fit. I call up Wedge again today and send em pics of the bracket in my car, and how they DONT FIT.
They come back and tell me that my car was made with 1988-89 floor pans in it. WTF?? Has anyone heard of this before??? Ive now owned 2 1990 Si's and the floor pans were exactly the same! They are willing to exchange but of course i have to send it back and when they send another set up to me in canada ill have to pay another shitty *** UPS brokerage fee!#$@% #@
I measured it out, between the mounting bolts it measures about 13".
Are these guys bs'ing me? or was Honda just really messing around in the 90's? Can you guys measure out what you have in your cars to confirm?
Please and thankyou!
Heres a pic of the bracket for reference:

the two right mounts are completely off, same goes for the top left (assuming you are sitting in the seat)

thats messed, If it IS true tho I guess i can toss my 89 si seats into my 90 without switching pans then!
Let me go outside and measure my 89si and my 91 DX both CDM
PS, peewee: our seatbelts are mouted on a pivot on the bottom and at the top, and are about 3 inches behind the door. I always flip the thing down so that ppl dont trip getting out.

OK, I went out and measured the disdtance between my two front mounting bolts on both cars... and it is almost exactly 13 inches from the center of each bolt head on both cars.
I have a feeling that they might be wrong on this one theres really no way it would need to be that wide for an 88-89 as they suggested or whatever...

Quick answer (and if I'm wrong, flame away)
For the US spec:
88-89 has narrower mounting tabs for the seat, seatbelts attached the B-Pillar, and the buckle attached to the floor
90-91 has wider mounting tabs for the seat, seatbelts attached to the door, and the buckle attached to the seat
From your picture, I can see that the buckle is anchored on the floor and it looks like the narrower mounting points for the seats which would lead me to believe that what you have is the equivalent to the US spec 88-89 body.

you either have a 88-89 USDM or a Canadian spec Civic.
don't you live up across the boarder???
look at your seat belt receptical. it's not bolted to the seat itself like the 90-91 USDM Civics.
So 90-91 rails will not work. you will need 88-89 rails.

thanks for the help guys! i went to a junkyard today where theres an abundance of ef's and measured out a few of them. it was pretty random actually, 90-91 civics measured either 13" from bolt to bolt or 17.5" (this is the size of the bracket that was sent to me). all of the 88-89 civics were 13".
so this really sucks, i dont want to wait another 2 weeks to get these babys in! ive waited long enough!
but thanks again for the help i hope this thread will save someone the trouble in the future

I wonder why some are one way and others are different.
i assume you checked the clusters to verify canadian citizenship?
also, where is this EF graveyard you speak of, i might need to take a trip there sometime.

your car is not a 90 civic it's either a 89 or a 88 because de 90-91 civic has the seatbelts on the door other way to find out the year are the back up ligths the in the 89 they're like to big squares and in the 90-91 they're not, they're smaller and not that big.
