What are my options for a rear sway bar on an EG?
I had my eyes set on a Comptech rear sway bar/tie bar for my 93 Civic Si. I've seen the ASR bar and the Suspension Techniques, but are there more options that I may be missing?
For suspension I'll be running the race setup from Progress Group 450f/600r coilovers next year. I thought about toning down the rear springs a bit with maybe 450/550 since this is also my daily driver

The Suspension Techniques is the best off the shelf one as far as how it mounts and works. Plus it's adjustable which is nice as well.
If you want something made more to your spec, you can try and find out some info on Saner Performance Fabrication. Not sure if he has a website or not. I have seen ads in GRM and know plenty of IT and HC guys who run his bars.
So far I am happy with Koni Yellows, 400F 550R and a USDM ITR rear bar with street tires.

Thanks for your opinion. I forgot to mention I'm basically looking for a kit that has the tie bar reinforcement kit with it. I want to prevent subframe tear out, which is why I wanted the Comptech kit.

No problem. FWIW I used the Beaks kit on my daily driven '99 Civic Si for three years with auto-x and track day use with no issues. I currently use the Beaks kit w/ lower tie bar on my '92 Civic CX Auto-x/HPDE only car for ~1 1/2 years now w/ no problem. Good luck.

I am currently running 450/600 with koni yellows on my EG.
Let me tell you... the ride is a quite bumpy, and your Girlfriend will not like it.
You may occasionally hit your head on the roof too when you hit a bump in the road. I don't know if 50lb will make much of a difference on the comfort factor.
It's not an ideal Daily driver setup. Its tolerable.. but it can be annoying.
I am running a stock front sway bar, and no rear bar at all.
I have auto-xed the car a few time, but it is mostly a track *****.
The car handles quite well, it is VERY predictable, well behaved and a blast to drive.
I too was thinking about getting an ASR-rear bar for it, but until I get the most speed out of me, I am going to wait to make any further suspension changes.

ASR setup is your best option. Or what around and look for the comptech unit used.

its as harsh as it is, because the dampers can't really handle the spring rates.
It is amazing what good dampers will do to the ride quality of high sprung cars.

ASR is the only way to go for a race car IMO. We run the 32mm on are ITR's and the 22mm ITR kit on our Civics. You cant beat the complete kit it comes with the bar and reinforcement along with end links.
I am a Authorized Dealer and can offer 5% off and free shipping. PM for exact price.

I agree it's amazing what GREAT dampers can do. My friend with a WRX wagon has Teins and the ride is like butter, but put a couple clicks on the shocks and it turns into a razor. Amazing.
I had Koni SPSS on my 91 Civic Si with 400/450 springs and it was a bit bouncy. But wow did that Civic corner
With 450/600 springs and the ASR 32mm bar is it twitchy? I like my cars to be on the neutral side of cornering. I'm not a big fan of the "*** end" coming around alot. Just not my style of driving.

Hehe I'm keeping a close eye on this thread.
What front bar are you going to use Mike? 32mm sounds pretty extreme to me, especially with that offset on the springs.

With 450f/600r, stock front bar and no rear bar, I *think* that my car is pretty neutral. It doesn't seem to push (unlesss I take it in too hard) or be very loose ( unless I am trying to turn and brake).
I dunno.. I would like to have a HC driver drive my car, and give me some advice on setup/handling and most importantly some coaching on how to drive my car.

I agree--don't spend a lot of cash for something that isn't any better.
Also, with a 22mm rear bar on the back, chances are you may not need to run as aggressive of rear rates. And that's where the ride quality goes to hell when you spring-up the rear.
I know you want a good autox car, but running such an oversteering setup on the street is just asking for trouble, no matter how good of a driver is behind the wheel. I had and old lady in front of me flat stop in the middle of a cloverleaf and it's took all I could to slow the car down and keep it pointed straight. That's part of the reason why I decided to get a trailer and just tow to events.

Oh well then it shouldn't be a problem. Some of the east coast guys are instructors and wouldn't turn down the chance to drive someone else's car and give them a few pointers. Never hurts to ask.
