Hey guys my girlfriend was driving last night and her car randomly started to bog. She pulled off the expressway and parked it. I looked at it and at initial start up it sounded almost like it was misfiring and was idling rough. The best way to describe it was it sounded like a subaru. I pushed the accelerator for a bit and the sound cleared up as well as the idle. There is white smoke coming out of the exhaust however it doesn't smell like coolant. I believe its steam. Could these be symptoms of a thermostat? I haven't gotten a chance to check the oil and coolant yet however I just wanted your alls opinion thus far. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thus far it sounds like a cracked head or blown head gasket.

I agree, but I was waiting for someone else to chime in that would have more knowledge.

My car would bog at start and also was blowing white smoke (only a little) that did not smell like coolant. I had the HG replaced this weekend and there was a small crack. Once it was replaced my car no longer starts up like a fully built STI.
